Not that Crowder has really done enough to garner ROY consideration with only 5 solos, 5 assists, and 1 pass defensed, but Odell Thurman just seems to be at a different level over in Cincinnati. Thurman got AFC Rookie of the Month honors. No wonder the Pats were rumored to be salivating over him.

Crowder has 5 solos, 5 assists, 1 Pass Defensed

Odell has 12 solos, 6 assists, 1 interception, 2 Forced Fumbles, and 1 Pass Defensed.

DeMarcus Ware has 7 solos, 2 assists, 1 sack, and 1 Pass Defensed

PacMan Jones has 6 solos, 1 assist, and 2 Passes Defensed

Antrel Rolle has 16 solos, 2 assists, and is currently injured

Shawn Merriman has 3 solos.

Thomas Davis has 7 solos, 1 assist, 1 sack

Derrick Johnson has 18 solos, 4 assists, 1 sack, and 2 Forced Fumbles (IMO he should have gotten the honors over Odell Thurman)

Kirk Morrison has 21 solos, 1 assist, and 1 Pass Defensed

The only other rookie starter I know of that is doing good on D is Mike Patterson, who has 9 solos, 2 assists, 1.5 sacks, and 1 Forced Fumble (no wonder he was drafted higher than Shaun Cody...I know when I watched USC it was always Patterson that drew my eye)

So I guess the second-guessers out there have more fuel for the fire wondering if we should have drafted Odell Thurman in the 2nd round and then like a QB like David Greene or Kyle Orton in the 3rd round. But, I'm not really worried. I like Crowder as far as his size and style for playing inside along with Zach in this defense, but I have to admit if Zach wasn't here I def would have been screaming for us to draft Odell cuz I was surprised he made it out of the first round with his incredible speed and playmaking ability.

I will ask this question. Do you think Odell would put up numbers like that with Zach on the defense?

Merriman was an animal against the Giants Sunday in his first game! This guy is a stud!

Hate to say it, but right now, no one seems to even consider Channing a candidate for ROY. The only chance he's got is if we go on a roll and win the division.

i wanna know what they put in the water down in cinci..exspecially the Defense's drinking water

Agreed, right now Channing isn't on anyone's list but ours. And on our team, it might be said that Davis is giving him a run anyway.

That's fine. No one is considering him because he is not putting up huge numbers. That is fine. If he is contributing (which he is) and making our D solid. I have NO complaints. I doubt he would either. Awards are nice, but winning is nicer. Playing along side Zach and Seau there is not a lot of tackles for him to collect.

The three top canidates for Defensive Player of the Year in my opinion are Derrick Johnson, DeMarcus Ware, and Odell Thurman. DJ gets my vote so far.

Odell Thurman's defense is designed to funnell the action to him. Thurman and Crowder play two completely different roles.

We all know that Crowder has some big competition here. If he wants to win it, he is gonna have to play lights out because of guys like Thurman, Ware and Johnson.

Antrel Rolle has a lot of tackles because he is giving up a good amount of receptions

I had the pleasure of watching Odell play games here in Athens between the hedges. This guy is a freak on the field. He dominates his position with great instincts, and his ball skills are superb for a linebacker. Oh yeah, he's pretty fast too. I'm a dedicated Dolfan, but I don't think Crowder has a chance against Thurman for ROY honors.

Crowder was a thrid round pick and is being compared to 1st rounders, his stats are still impressive to me.

I think if Crowder secures the starting position very soon he could possibly win AFC defensive ROTY. We only have 3 games of stats. There is about a 96% chance that those stats will be 100% different at the end of the season...don't even think about it...I already looked it up. ;)...J/K. If we win the division and he was a major player in that, he will be seriously looked at.
