the fact we got this guy in the 3rd round is unreal. That is going to prove to be one of the bigger steals of the 05 draft, he is an animal. He was all over the field today, like i said in my other thread... being there in person lets you see so much more and Channing was all over the place sideline to sideline. Plus when he hits people they go back, there is no forward push, all their momentum is stopped. This guy is going to be something special for years you can bank on that.

Furthermore, living here in SD i constantly hear about Shawne Merriman. Yes he's a nice player but it seems there is no versatility in his game. He can get to the QB, but he doesn't show me anything as far as going sideline to sideline to stop the run, he also doesn't impress me in pass coverage. From what i saw today Crowder looks like a much more complete player, and more like a 1st round pick then Merriman does.

Any thoughts?

Agreed, Crowder is an awesome LB. Merriman and Thurman have been good, but we scored with Crowder.

remember crowder has had 3 acl's and a scope i believe, i know they said before the draft his knees are as good as anyone else, but this was and will always a be concern with channing...

Why is Crowder not being mentioned as a candidate for ROY or at least defensive ROY?

I think he's playing as well as any of the defensive guys out there. It seems like there is a bias towards favoring 1st round picks.

Crowder will be our Star LB when Zach retires...the man can just flat out play. He has a nasty demeanor...and I like it :D

It will only continue to be a concern because people like you make it one.. so if you actually think about it, there is no concern if Channing, doctors and the organization knows there isnt. As much as people like you harp about injuries, and ignore the top doctors who specialize in sports injuries who say that he has just as good of a chance for injury as anyone else.. there is no concern.

You know there are just a load of REALLY good LB's in this draft. It doesn't look like a pressing need right now, but if we were to grab one of the top LB's (Greenway, Brooks etc.), can you imagine our unit next year? It would be ridonculous!

I was amazed when I saw that we got this guy and knew he would be a stud on the field. This was the first game where he wasn't just doing his job, he was making a heck of a lot of noise doing it.

Didn't we steal Will Poole in the fourth rd the year before?? I think we have some very solid young players.

After going to the game today, Channing is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. He was all over the field and when he hits someone, they usually go backwards. I personally would like to keep him at the strong side backer, it seems to be a more natural fit for him.
