I have a small bone to pick with the growing sentiment that is trying to mark Channing Crowder as a "non-playmaking" ILB...

Now I can understand those diehard fans that want to see an oppossing player's helmet knocked off of his body, with the head still in it! But to call Channing Crowder a non-force in the middle is negligent at best...The guy plays with tremendous heart and effort anytime he is on the field, makes the defensive calls and adjustments, and also racks up 100+ tackles in his 1st season without Mr. Thomas's assistance.

Now I might not be the sharpest tack in the box, but this defense didn't show the same intensity or agression without him when they traveled to KC...In fact, that game was alot closer than necessary IMO...

He is a solid young ILB with the desire to be the best and the talent to get better and better as he develops his skills and techniques in the 3-4 defense...He can be a little reckless at times, but the guy makes mistakes at 100 mph...and the coach in all of us should really appreciate that...

Is he Ray Lewis?..no!

But I will be more forgiving than most for now, because just like I refuse to pass judgement on Chad until we get an O-Line that can keep him upright for 4 seconds without being flushed out of the pocket to throw on the run (which he stinks at by the way), I won't judge Channing until we get a real dominant NT in front of him that can control both gaps and create the seams necessary for a ILB to be productive at blitzing the QB...

I don't know, maybe I was watching another team this year, but Crowder makes plenty of plays!

Just like he said,"I guess making tackles isn't making plays!"...I couldn't disagree more, just be careful what you say about the guy...it's not like Zach was busting up the middle putting consistent pressure on the QB either, something that Channing did quite often this year...

The guy is young and still trying to establish himself at quite possibly the toughest position on the defense when you consider the amount of responsibilty that the play-calling and adjustment calls demand of an athlete. And let's also not forget that he anchored a Top 10 defense without Zach and JT in dolphin uni's...

I am not saying that I don't want an upgrade at the position...In fact, I am a fan of improving "any" position on this team to get us back to the SuperBowl!!!...

But Channing Crowder's performance this year absolutely warrants his return to compete for his job next season to say the least! Draft a young stud and let them all battle it out in camp, but Channing is the heart and soul of this defense and letting him go this offseason would be a tremendous mistake, trust that!

If the FO does bump it's head and let him walk, don't be surprised if we are facing him twice a year in a Patriots uni...Bringing back Seau can only last so long and Channing would fit perfectly in the middle there...

You don't build a contender by letting solid young talent go IMO...so resign the man, HE DESERVES IT!!!...

Go Phins!

Thank you and YES! Absolutely correct.
Yes, Crowder has put up better numbers than Bart Scott. And many want to replace Crowder with Scott? Huh?

Also, would Ray Lewis be putting up those numbers without Haloti Ngata? He said it himself before they got Ngata that he would demand a trade if they didn't provide him with a top notch NT.

Crowder with Ngata equals a Pro Bowl MLB. And yes, he had 113 tackles without the help of Zach, which Scott gets help from Lewis and has the luxury of playing behind Ngata.

yeah and 112 of those tackles were 10-15 yards downfield or after a runningback ran over Crowder like a Mack Truck hitting a sparrow

I'll give Crowder credit for his motor.

He is a damn good chaser!

Next. :lol2:

Pure mythical made up story. Did you TiVo the games this past year? I did. I didn't see what you are talking about. If you did, look back at the games then talk. If not, just be quiet and learn from those of us who did TiVo the games and are able to confirm that that didn't happen often, if at all....

Channing Crowder is a run of the mill linebacker.

I have all the games as well and we definitely disagree on Crowder.

I definitely respect your opinion however.

We will never agree on everything. :hi5:

Nice effort, but the fact reamins that Crowder doesn't cause TO's or sack the QB. Sorry, but with only 11 players on the field your front 7 has to make things happen. If you're not getting the ball or the QB on the ground and if you're not getting picks you have no business being a 3-4 LB. The 3-4 is designed for the LB's to be playmakers, hard hitters that dislodge the ball, tall to make throwing over them tougher. Channing just isn't a big play 3-4 LB. He's more of a tampa 2 or 4-3 LB. He can play smaller in those defenses and not be such a liablility. You have to be a mauller to be a 3-4 LB and Channing isn't that either.

Except that doesn't have anything to do with reality.

"Play-making" at his position would look like:

Tackles For Loss: He doesn't do

Forcing Fumbles: He doesn't do

Interceptions: He doesn't do

Sacking the QB: He doesn't do

Stuffing the Run: He does stuff the run at the point of attack (which is his job) in goal line stands. Which is good. He doesn't do it anywhere else with consistency.

What he does do with consistency is get out of position and/or blocked, then use his fantastic motor and athleticism to recover, then run down plays after 5+ yard pick-ups.

If he could use that motor and athleticism to make plays, at the point of attack, instead of running them down afterwards, we would have a "play-maker". Which it's obvious he "could" do if he made quicker, more correct reads/decisions on the field. He just doesn't, at least not in his 4 years with Miami.

This isn't some fantasy "see an oppossing player's helmet knocked off of his body, with the head still in it!". It's looking at what you are actually dealing with and keeping it real.

Is he worth something ? Probably (unless the FO thinks they want to do do better). 113 tackles is nothing to sneeze at. I mean if he doesn't chase those plays down from behind there would certainly be more yards gained, since he didn't stop them initially. In all fairness not all of them were chasing down from behind. Just way way too many and he doesn't make impact plays (forced fumbles, ints, sacks etc...) to offset the times when he is out of position. If he did we wouldn't be talking about this.

Is he worth top dollar ? No way.

you guys do realize crwoder said this FO is looking for a LB that makes big plays and i havent made any. you do realize he said that himself right? so ur arguing wiht a guy admitting himself he hasnt?

Give some examples of these so called plays Crowder made.If your going to post a topic saying Crowder is a playmaker please give some examples.

How much do you feel Crowder should be paid?

The KC game comments people make are laughable.KC came out in spread formation exploiting the Dolphins defense. It wouldn't matter if Crowder was playing. What happened in the 2nd half of the game? The coaching staff made adjustments at half time and the Defense responded well and they only gave up 3 POINTS and thats without Crowder playing.

it's not like Zach was busting up the middle putting consistent pressure on the QB either, something that Channing did quite often this year.

What games were you watching?

And I will ask again please give examples of Crowder actually making plays.

I will give you a list of things Crowder dosen't do well:

-ints
-sacks
-forced fumbles
-making tackles behind the line of scrimmage

He's also a liabilty in pass coverage, and takes poor angles causing him to make too many plays down the field.
