We have, rightly in my opinion, given a lot of credit to Hudson Houck for the improvement of the offensive line and Scott Linehan's work last year got him a promotion to head coach in St. Louis.

Like many of you I was/am worried about the lack of veteran depth behind Chambers and Booker. Campbell is a project as is Gibson while Hagan and Aromashadu are draft picks. Welker is probably better utilized as a Return Specialist as is Murphy. The rest are longshots at best.

Yet, where I had always been willing to hand a rough group over to Houck to mold into a quality offensive line I had worried about the WR position. But I have been considering Charlie Baggett's work as WR coach. Chambers had a break-out year, Booker, who had always been looked at as a possession receiver had a huge increase in his yard per catch average, and little Wes Welker developed into a dependable slot man. Upon reflection of the work Baggett has done, I am now more than happy, perhaps even eager, to see what he will do with this group of interesting WR prospects.

The big news as far as the coaching staff this offseason was the hiring of Mularkey and Capers but perhaps the best coaching decision Saban made was not allowing Baggett to follow Linehan.

I'm not saying Baggett isn't good but he was hard to judge with Moss on the Vikes during the years he made his name. I personally thought Jerry Sullivan was a very good coach - he was just saddled with a terrible head coach and OC. I don't think you can put Bagget in the same class or same league as Houck yet. It's nice to see Saban has thought enough of him to make an effort to keep him. Part of it could be to try to keep some continuity with the offense with Mularkey a new OC coming in.

I wasn't a Linehan fan at all. I think he rode the Culpepper to Moss tandem and made a name. IMO he is the most overhyped coach I have seen in awhile (since Norv Turner who has done zip since riding the coat tails of the talent Dallas had back then). He came from college right into the Vikes already high power offense. I think Mularkey is a huge upgrade at OC!

As a viking fan, I was always impressed with Baggett's work with Culpepper on the sideline. He always seemed to go to Baggett after an offensive series.

I'm not sure if that wasn't because Linehan was in the booth and Bagget was responsible for the communication between Culpepper and him. He was Scott's voice on the field. Of course you can see how well that worked in Miami. Hopefully he has alot of familiarity with Culpepper so he can teach the WR's what he excels at and how he makes his reads.
