Check Down Chad No More?

I was about to post this article for those who do not see a change in Henne. Thanks for posting it.

Excellent stuff. Hopefully Daboll has also designed an offense around minimizing the effect of Henne's weakness of staring down receivers, thus making it have less of an effect on the offense.

Fran tarkenington was a check down QB too, chuck foreman career was the check down back and they went to two or three super bowls

Just remember we were playing the Panthers. Lets wait to see a good defense out there. But yes, definitely noticed a difference. And because of Bush, check downs can actually be big plays this year.

I understand your caution, but you missed the point of the article. Improvements in pre snap reads and going through your progression have nothing to do with a defense. It is a pure skill. Improvements in these skills do not guarantee performance against a defense like the Steelers, but they make a good performance more likely than before.

I think that play was designed for Marshall, which means it wasn't a "checkdown" since he was the primary receiver, and when watching the play Henne never looks to his left.

As the article states, Henne clearly looks at other receivers before going to Marshall. If that was a designed play, then Henne looked off the primary receiver before going to him. That is more improvement than I am expecting! That would be a huge improvement!

I went back to watch the first quarter after reading the article. I watch only Henne's head position and focus on passing plays. Every play he went through his progression. I really like his improvement in this game. I will be looking to see if he can do this in the next preseason game.

Henne is looking at the safety's first step when the ball is snapped, and then after the snap he stares down the LB who is in the area where he will throw the ball. I didn't really see him look off any other receivers. Its hard to tell though...I get the authors point, but I think this play is a bad example.

If I had access to the game, I'd go back and watch other passing plays and see if that was just on one play or he actually did this constantly..
