"It's funny how the fortunes of teams are intertwined, and in the case of the Dolphins and Bears it's hilarious. For all the favors the Dolphins have done the Bears over the years, having them spoil the perfect 1985 season is a fair price for the Bears to pay."

"Miami's latest gift was pass rusher Adewale Ogunleye for receiver Marty Booker and a third-round draft choice that turned out to be linebacker Channing Crowder. Booker and Crowder are good, but Miami's defensive line now features, with the exception of Jason Taylor, a bunch of slow castoffs all older than 30: Kevin Carter, ex-Bear Keith Traylor, Vonnie Holliday, Dan Wilkinson and Jeff Zgonina."

"The Dolphins' bad habit of trading draft picks for veterans revealed Wannstedt's job insecurity and ultimately helped more teams than the Bears while plunging the Dolphins into the rut where Saban now finds himself spinning."

ahh beat me to it lol. yeah i was pretty pissed about reading this article. I mean he's talking about the fact we coulda had Rex Grossman? Who the hell cares!?!?!? Then they start talking about how our draft picks went awry prior to the Saban era. With the exception of Jason Allen who we all know will eventually become a starter for this defense whether its corner or safety. He says we coulda had Danieal Manning instead. This guy is definitely a homer and is just downing us in every way possible. We need to beat this team on sunday. Regardless of our record, this is the biggest game of the season as of right now. We may have loss a few games but out of those 6 we should have won at least 4. The Bears will have a rough time trying to get their 8th win Sunday I guarantee it!

I didn't read the whole article, but it's kind of hard to argue against the points made in the snippets you posted. I might take issue with the Ogunleye vs. Booker statement, as I'm not sure how well AO has played for the Bears, but I feel like Booker has been a better receiver than Chambers so far this year, and has made some pretty big plays for us in the past. It's too early to call Crowder merely "good", as he is still young in the league. Remember, AO took some time to develop...it's not like he was an immediate impact player in his first season, or even halfway through his second.

One thing that is dead on the money, though, is the assessment of Wannstedt, who's specialty was coming out on the wrong end of trades and making poor draft selections.

I hope you are busy typing on Sunday...

Yawn.

Ogunleye signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins. After a couple of Jason Taylor-helped sack totals (24.5 over 2002-2003), he wanted more what he was worth and the Dolphins turned that into Booker and a third-round draft pick. He hasn't exactly been tearing it up the past two years (I'll give him a pass for the injury in 2004.....10 was decent last year but he has a whopping 2.5 so far this year). Didn't the Dolphins set a team record for sacks last year with that group of "slow castoffs?"

I don't miss Ogunleye at all. He never would have been worth close to what he wanted from the Dolphins.

What is the point of this article? Some of the stuff he mentions early in the article make sense but he then starts recahing for some kind of Miami-Chicago connection and then he settles on just trashing the Dolphins. And I'm sure the Bears would have skipped over Marino if they had known he would be a Hall of Famer, that statement was ridiculous.

This may have been one of those win-win situations for 2 teams. Ogunleye has been a nice addition to our team. While he probably wasn't worth the money he was asking from the Dolphins, he has been worth every penny to us. We really needed his leadership, work ethic and performance on the field. Our whole line is better with him in the game.

Saban could have been the Bears' coach when general manager Jerry Angelo was looking if Angelo had been willing to cede personnel power. Angelo and Saban go way back as friends, so it looked like a possible fit.

this is the telling statement from that article.

angelo and saban are friends who go WAY BACK and even he wouldnt
give nick total control over the team.

wonder why?

and how has that worked out [for both teams]?

thank you wayne for once again falling for the hype and
giving the gm spot to an amateur who has proved NOTHING
in the nfl.

will wayne EVER learn?

now we have the answer! what was the question again?

wonder why?
noooo. he wouldnt give up HIS control of that aspect, read it again. wonder why?? if you were to hire someone and one of his requirements included you giving up part of your job(a huge part) to him, would you hire him? make no mistake about the fact that the bears job was his, if he wanted it.
if Angelo had been willing to cede personnel power
that quote says, quite directly, that saban could have been their coach if angelo was willing to give up part of HIS job.
