Ten wins. In the NFL, to accomplish that means almost certain inclusion into the playoffs. Not this season. And heading into this weekend's final regular-season games, six of the league's 32 teams face the prospect of finishing 10-6 and not qualifying for the postseason.

Not only that, but as many as three teams could wind up 10-6 and on the wrong side of the fence.

That's why Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson, long a supporter of expanding the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams, is miffed - and not just because his team is among those possibly left idle despite double-digit wins.

I am pretty sure it was brought up last year or 2 years ago. I am pretty sure it was 2 years ago because the GM/owners had a meeting about changing overtime to college style and putting 14 teams in the playoffs

1 gets a bye and the 6 other teams battle for spots in the next round I like it!

it was actually 2002 when HIS team was shutout of the playoffs, NOT last year when his team didn't have a shot. figures

Oh ya the ****** who took two months to figure out that Surtain would help his D.

Thing is it always seems to be Peterson that initiates the talk. I don't remember Huizenga or jones brining it up in 2003 when we were shut out with a 10-6 record.

i believe in the early 90s someone like the niners missed the playoffs at 11-5

Yeah i believe so too, I remember them disussing it when we missed the playoffs in 03. Something about us having the best record not to make theplayoffs since that team. I actually think it was them and the Eagles having 10-6 records in the same year and both missed out.

It does kind of suck to win 10 games and not make it in. The bad teams would still lose in the playoffs in some more were allowed in. Things work out, the best teams would still make the Superbowl.

btw, 12 teams is perfect. 16 is too many in the NBA and NHL, 8 is too few in baseball, and 10 and 14 are just weird numbers that shouldn't be discussed. 12 is fine

12 is also the amount of teams i'd want in a potential NCAA playoff, but that wouldn't happen

I think you're right, the way it is set up right now is perfect. I would take an 8-12 team playoff in CFB but to me 8 is just right.

I think 1 team with afirst round bye would be better. I like the idea of a 14 team playoff

I agree, however i wish they could change it so that who hosts playoff games was based on record come playoff time. Then a team like the Titans who were a 12-4 wildcard one year wouldn't have to go on the road to Baltimore (who i think was 9-7) in round one of the playoffs. Or say the Rams won the NFC West at 8-8 and hosted a 12-4 wildcard team at the Edward Jones Dome where they are very hard to beat.....I wish they could straighten that out.
