The Kansas City Chiefs prove why they have one of the poorest defenses in the NFL, by offering a 4th RD pick to Miami for an all pro CB What a JOKE..I look at it this way the chiefs are the ones that need help on Defense not us and if no trade can be worked out then we still end up with a solid CB and we have depth too and the Chiefs can keep givin up big plays....because they are not willing to pay for talent!!

we'll see whose laughing when randy moss is running all over them, and their offense is putting up 35 points but their D is giving up 40+

We'll see whose laughing when KC acquires Surtain for only a 3rd round pick. :(

Yeah, they should have been like Rick Speilman last year - offering a 2nd for AJ Feeley - then they would have been in much better shape ... in this year's draft! :roflmao:

What else are they going to do? You don't offer a team what that team ASKS for, especially when you still have to pay through the nose to get Surtain!

The Dolphins asked for a 2nd. The Chiefs offered their next best pick available - their 4th. That's what teams do. It's called "negotiations."

The only way the Chiefs will ever trade their 2nd round pick is if they feel a) Ty Law will not be healthy or last many more years; b) The CB's available to them in the draft will not be ready to compete right away; and c) Surtain agrees to a reasonable contract. That's not called, "negotiations," at that point, it's called, "desperation." That's what we will need to make the deal.

Your angry b/c your bias to the Phins and bias toward the value of Surtain, having been a Phins fan. I understand that. But, objectively, if I'm the Chiefs, I'm not going to come out and offer my 2nd. Not having a 2nd wrecks the entire draft - b/c you take your first and then wait an eternity to pick again. That puts added pressure on you to make that 1st pick be a spectacular one.

This is why WE are in such crappy shape right now with a 1st and a 3rd - only two picks on day one. There is ZERO margin for error with those two picks. If we had the 2nd and the extra 3rd, there would be much more flexibility in the position we picked and the player.

Man, when you put it like that I can't believe we gave up a 2nd for AJ... it does make me wonder about RS.

Would you rather #2, #34, #66 and #70 or Feeley, Gordon, #2 and #70?

I agree. I think we should have negotiated a deal to protect ourselves from losing the 2nd - especially that high. It should have been like the Ricky Williams deal - when the compensation went up based on his play.

We should have said, a 2nd if we finish in the top 10 in the league and he starts, but if we drop out of the playoffs or are in, say, the bottom 15 in the league (as we are now, obviously) recordwise, then the pick drops to a 3rd or 4th.

I think Spielman generally does okay as a scout (not perfect, of course), but he got royally ripped off with this trade. Just ripped!

I would not be surprised if Saban says "See Ya!" when the draft is over. RS may have learned his lesson and may be able to work with Saban and save his job. But, he ain't going to be getting any GM offers in the next two-three years, that's for sure!

Can't trade a compensatory pick. KC's options are either their 2nd or their 4th. I think Saban and co. should hold out until draft day, then KC might get a little more desperate. The phins don't absolutely have to get rid of Surtain and I don't think they should negotiate with KC at this point since KC thinks they are in a position with leverage. Never negotiate when you have no leverage.

yeah, he is a great talent evaluator IMO... just panics as a GM - feeley was a panic signing, as was the deals with gordon and carey.

true. but we need to get rid of his cap space to be able to sign our draft picks, so we can afford to wait till after draft and make the cheifs sweat a little while and they will give up a 2nd for him,of course this will only be possible before the draft......or wouldnt mind a 2006 pick........say around a 2nd or 1st

Apparantly, the Chiefs GM is a tough negotiator that makes lowball offers until the last second. My guess is that when the Chiefs are on the clock at 2.15 or 3.15, we will speak again with the Chiefs about a Surtain deal.

I think a deal will probably go down on - or very close to - draft day.

I think we should try to renegoziate with Surtain to a new deal, is to good of a player to let it go for 4 rounder. The chiefs is a sorry franchise with a crying baby HC.

That totally sucks...I hope Spoilman isn't making the moves. He'd probably take a 7th rounder for Surtain...:shakeno:

I still think we will either trade him before day one of the draft... OR the night after day one is over. When they realize they did not get all the players they needed and trade us a 2006 2nd or 1st.
