Vikings | Childress had thoughts of Owens in dealing with Culpepper
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 14:21:17 -0800
John Shipley, of the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/26">Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said he heard enough from former QB Daunte Culpepper to know that he did not want to be with the Vikings and that the feeling was mutual. Childress had plenty of background experience having to deal with WR Terrell Owens for the last two seasons. In his first public appearance in the Twin Cities, Childress told a St. Paul Chamber of Commerce luncheon crowd he didn't like what he heard from Culpepper during the few conversations they have had since Childress was hired Jan. 5. Childress was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia the past seven seasons, the last two with Owens, whose egocentric, and eccentric, behavior ultimately became such a headache that his prodigious talent was deemed not worth it.

EDIT: Sorry if the tittle thread was missleading. Brad C didn't directly say Pepp was like Owens. I was reading between the lines.

Shouldnt he be talking about who the new QB may be and not who it isnt?

To me it just sounds as if he is Mad Daunte isnt there

He is still talking about Culpepper!? It's been a week, and he is still talking about him? Wow... Can't wait for the Vikings to come to South Florida next year... I bet this will be a Sunday night game...

He's probably doing it to cover his ***. I imagine that the trade probably didn't go over all that spectacularly in Minnesota, and him being a new coach, he doesn't want to alienate the fans too much. So he embellishes and tries to make the Viking fans believe that he and the owner are not to blame for this.

Same here

It would look better for the Vikings if he was focusing on the future instead of the past. Before last season I said that I would be happy with either Childress or Saban. Seeing how Childress is handling things now, I must say that Saban was a much better choice. ( I never doubted that Saban was a good choice, I just thought(past tense) that Childress was a good choice as well).

See, if i were a Vikings fan i would totally agree with that because i think they made a huge mistake by trading him. Fans up here are glad to see him go. It really makes me mad cuz they always say "Good luck with Pep" like he was a bad player. Viking fans are rediculous, period.

I completely agree, plus the media is probably egging him on something awful.. But what he should be doing is telling the fans how he plans on putting that behind the organization and what they are doing to make things better.. But I guess being a first year head coach is tough and something like this can't help things..

What kills me is this

Childress had plenty of background experience having to deal with WR Terrell Owens for the last two seasons.

and how well did benching Owens work out for the Eagles?

Listen, in no way shape or form did I ever think Daunte was like Owens, as far as I saw, Daunte always kept his composure, even when Moss would yell at him on the side lines.

Daunte is a bigger man than I am, I would have laid Moss out had he spoke to me like that.

I'm sure Daunte didn't like where the franchise was going (Kinda like Milarky)(sp?), not to mention the team not beeing up front with him about seeking a trade. I don't blame Daunte for feeling the way he did.
