Chris Grier W/ Marvin Allen & Reggie Mckenzie Vs W/ Gase & Tannenbaum

What a difference having 2 seasoned football guys in his ear.. being praised all over the place for Miami's "savvy."

Grier's first independent draft when not tied to Adam and Mike is like night and day!

Just sayin'
We are in a drivers seat the Pats don’t care but I feel the Jets and Bills orgs do

And even prior to the draft, getting picks for Tannehill and Quinn, adding picks for the future, value value value with the picks.
I think next year is the transformational draft year. This year was all about nabbing a handful of guys for positions of need, set up for next year, hopefully luck into some players. Next year, with 2 potential comp picks plus 10 of our own we should run the draft.
It's kind of what JJ did his first year here. He needed the big DT for his system so he grabbed Gardener in the first. Then traded down and out of the 2nd, added RB's(3 of em) because he was all about running the ball, and snagged value(Zach Thomas and Shawn Wooden) later.
It was year 2, when he said he knew where his needs really were, that he went in with all those comp picks and took Yatil Green(oh, the heartbreak) Madison, Taylor, Derrick Rodgers and laid the foundation for his defense along with Gardener, Wooden and Thomas.
I see us doing the same thing, but also trading picks for future picks, which is something JJ did not do.

I agree you could sense the difference. When Barry Jackson reported Miami had a deal for a trade down from #13, that included a 2020 # 1 coming back to Miami, but chose Wilkins instead. And didn't trade #48 to the Cardinals because he had a deal for a # 2 in 2020. Tells you all you need to know about the direction Miami is headed.

One thing I'd like to add. This is the 2nd year in a row, Miami had a trade down offer in round #1 and both times Grier opted to stay put, because a highly ranked player fell to them. He seems to be able to cover both ends of the spectrum. He sets himself up with potential assets and then let's the board fall, then adjust his plan accordingly.

I posted this in the VIP, but I think it fits here pretty well. I will say that I completely forgot about the front office additions and the apparent impact they are having.

I will start this off by stating that I was very disappointed with the Dolphins for not firing Chris Grier with everyone else and highering my guy Xanders to run the team. It just seemed like he's been with the organization for so long that he is a major part of the blame for the state of the franchise and I was worried that we would be in the same or worse position in 3 years. We may still be, but I do feel like we are doing things that we have not done before.

First, the coaching search process. I like the fact we identified the guy who they felt would be a good Head Coach, not a brilliant coordinator with the title of head coach. Flores has shown an understanding of the position head coach not seen in Miami for some time, starting with his hirings. Adding a mentor type that can work with QBs (understanding that QB is extremely important) in Caldwell speaks to understanding that he needs people who have nee there before and who he can go to for advice. The fact that he was able to take coaches from New England, something no other coach has been able to do before indicates that he was well respected by Belichick.

The moves this offseason have been savvy. We have dropped or traded players for draft picks...we were smart enough to not give out a stupid to James and we position ourselves in 2020 to not only have a great draft but also make some deals to have a good number of picks in 2021. It is something I have been hoping for since I started getting really interested in the draft. One of the teams draft goals should be to acquire more picks for the future.

This draft has shown that maybe, just maybe Grier gets it. His play on the Rosen trade was brilliant. Trading back, adding a 2nd to 2020 and still getting Rosen is a move that I would never expect Miami to do. It was truly a beautiful thing to see. I've given my feelings on the draft already, but that trade says a lot about the type of GM he could become.

This could all be just a lucky offseason, but next year we go into the offseason with 130 million in cap space, 12 picks in the draft, We, at the very least, have a QB on the roster that could be a guy we build around. Grier also managed to get me to give a **** about this upcoming season.

It was a lucky offseason but the FO didn’t cave and give the 48 to Zona but still got value - shows that savviness

Time will tell. The key to Grier will be finding a true QB for dolphins..time is ticking.every other positions can be find in draft or free agent.

I really hated this draft except for the Wilkins pick. This is a good sign though, cuz the drafts that I thought were amazing turned out to be shite lol

To me Grier main job is find a above avg qB or better for dolphins
