Popular belief is that if we stay at #1 we will select either Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey. I thought I'd make this thread a dedication to debating the 2 players.

If we cannot trade down, then I say we draft Chris Long.

Forget Dorsey, and forget Gholsten. Both guys play on BCS Championship defenses...that is enough reason to be skeptical. They are surrounded by the best defensive players in the nation...they are in great systems, they are pieces of a puzzle.

Chris Long was the heart and soul of his defense. He was THE play maker. He was like a 1-man defense. He single handedly won games for his team. When he was not sacking the QB, he was pressuring him every down and often batting the balls down. On running plays he closes running lanes, he has a motor that does not stop and has a relentless pursuit for perfection.

Imagine: Long on the left side of the D-Line and JT on the right - that would be a nightmare for O-Lines. Scouts think he could also be valuable as an OLB and compare him to Mike Vrabel.

Lil Howie would be my pick.

I don't see anyone filling in for JT's shoes in a couple years on our current roster...we best take DE over DT. I like our DT prospects we currently have...much more than our DE depth. Long can also switch sides and create havoc for coordinators...he will be worth the #1 selection guarenteed...in my opinion he and mcfadden are the only 2.

Honestly I would be happy with either of those guy's. but you did raise an intresting point about taking over games by himself. Maybe he might be a better choice.:ponder:

If we go 3-4 Chris Long. If we go 4-3 Dorsey. Still think we'll go Matt Ryan but if it is defense then the scheme will decide which player is selected

Dorsey throws guys around like rag dolls, even when he was injured. I would make sure we thoroughly check these guys out at the combine, their medical history, speed, strength, arrest records if any , talk to their friends and family and then go with the best guy.

I still think trading down would be the smartest thing as we need more picks. :woot:

I think this is oversimplification because I think the "Dorsey isn't maximized in the 3-4 argument" is overplayed. He could add weight to his frame and definitely play NT. And even if he couldn't most DEs in a 3-4 basically play the same assignment as he was in the 4-3.

I think Long is OLB in the 3-4. Or at least that's what his coach Al Groh thinks. OLB IMO is more important to a 3-4 than DE and I certainly have my reservations about Dorsey as a 3-4 NT. Doesnt mean he cant do it and do it well but generally you just want a fat body who occupies bodies.

I think Long would be moved around and yeah, would play a lot of OLB.

I just think the Dorsey won't make it in a 3-4 rhetoric is pretty baseless. Since the roll of a 3-4 DE is basically a 4-3 DT he could play the end and be extremely effective. Plus I think he has room to gain weight and could man the nose as well.

I think Dorsey is too talented to be a bust but I'm not sure he'll be as dominant in a 3-4. In a 4-3 he could be like Henderson. You're probably right that he could be moved around and he probably can make the transition

Unstoppable Chris Long , and it's going to be the same for the next 50 threads on this same very topic that will continue to be posted until draft day.
