He just said that the offensive line coach is the most important part of the o-line. He went on to say that our line is better than the line Houck was working with in San Diego. He also said that our line will be really good this year and will be great in the upcoming years.
Just thought I would share what I heard.

Wooooooo!!!!To be the man,you got to beat the man.

Jeez. Pretty high praise. I can't stress how huge it would be for this team if Vernon Carey works out at LT. That means we could re-sign Stockar McDougle to a moderately sized contract and have a good tackle tandem locked for years. That is so important to an offense.

Yeah I couldn't believe he went that high on the praise, but he did.

I like the versatility they are allowing Wade Smith to show. I really think Center will be his best position, though I'm positive he could play left guard as well.

I'm disappointed with Seth McKinney. I think we need to find a new Center. I'm also not all that impressed with Jeno James. He's commanding a few bucks and hasn't lived up to them. Rex Hadnot has potential perhaps at RG, but we've made that claim before about guys (ahem...SMITH, ahem) only to see our hopes dashed by horrible play or inconsistency. But if we can get Carey into the LT spot playing WELL, not just "ok" or "pretty solid" but actually playing really well, that would be such a monumentally huge first step.

Damn, Morts update looks a lot like what I said this offseason. Glad to know someone was reading what I wrote. :)

Don't expect too much, don't get your hopes up. Basically he's saying that we've got better potential then the players he had at SD, and he also said that we'll be better then last year (which isn't saying much since a diaper has better holding power then our line had). So this season we'll have progressed, but seasons to come we'll actually have a really good Oline.

My honest opinion is Mort might have been reaching a little, although I can't see why he would (to my knowledge he has no dolphin bias). I believe the play at our tackle positions (so important to an offense) has improved...but I have not heard tell of much improvement on the inside of the offensive line.

I said it before, and I do believe that when the season is over, we'll look back and I'll have been right...I think it was mistake to not do anything with the interior of the OL. We took last year's crap OL, added Stockar McDougle (a mid-level FA that looks like he could pan out beautifully), added Damion Cook (who may not make the team), and added Anthony Alabi. Now, I don't necessarily believe in an overhaul...we overhauled the OL last season with terrible results. But, given that, I still don't believe we did enough from a personnel standpoint.

We really will just have to see. I think we'll start getting a dramatically better idea of how we're shaping up during preseason though. I will trust my instincts from what I see on film implicitly.

mort and peter king are the best out there that you can trust king said saban is one of the five best coaches on the planet and mort is dead on we do have a great coaching staff 12-4 baby go dolphins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when are you and the hulkster going to wrestle?

If Carey can win the LT job that would allow us to make McIntosh a RG where he could be pretty good IMO.

That would allow St. Clair to be the swing T and Alabi to watch this year and learn.

Hadnot, McIntosh, James, Cook as interior linemand and McKinney and Smith as C's.

If Smith could work out at C that would save us a draft pick as well.

I agree with you CK on the interior. James will be fine but what happens when he goes down? The thing here is that Saban has been working a revolving door it seems as he continues to pick up players. shulters today. Who tommorrow? Mckinney will have to toughen up or else he will be gone. I have heard a decent report on him today though. He simply has to get tough. The T's are way better and we have depth there IMO.

The X factor to me is Ricky and Ronnie. Does the RB make the Oline?

I heard the Mortensen bit as well. A couple of things that jumped out at me:

Q. What can be considered success in Saban's first year as Dolphin HC?

A. Anything over .500. He said he thinks we will finish at .500, but probably still last in the AFC East. He did acknowledge that people are starting to respect us a bit more, but he said something to the effect that he has a hard time seeing 8 wins on our schedule.

Not that this gets a lot of us excited, but don't forget it wasn't long ago that the "experts" were predicting 4 or 5 wins. The more they are seeing of this team, the higher their expectations. I'd love to see better than .500, and I think the potential is there, but it's certainly a valid prediction. Much more in line with what we have thought for a while now.

Q. Discounting the QB, the Dolphins have more talent at offensive skill positions than they've had in a while

A. "Uh, I guess." I thought Mortenson sorta grudgingly accepted that notion. He went on about how Boston is a question mark, and that both runningbacks have some question marks.

Am I dreaming? sob... someone wake me up from this year long nightmare. wait, what's that? We'll have a good line? We'll have Ricky Williams plus the #1 RB in college football last year, Ronnie Brown! You mean we have a real offensive coordinator, Minnesota's offensive coordinator! Hudson Houck and two new tackles? What, we fired Dave Wannstedt and hired the most sought after coach outside of Bill Belicheck? :hail: :hi5: Time to party!:drinkers:
