Chris Simms is currently listed as the Bucs' No. 4 quarterback, behind Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, and Brian Griese respectively.

Josh Johnson, who the Bucs shouldn't have even wasted their time drafting, is fifth and likely getting no practice reps whatsoever. Tampa Bay is still thought to be shopping Simms, with Dallas the most likely landing spot.

I think unless Dallas trades for him he will be released, would you take a chace when and if he is released. I say you have to take a chance, especially if Beck fails to impress Saturday. The only negative is he would be behind on the learning process of the playbook.

No. At this point he is only a "name." A name isn't going to suddenly come to this team and do any better than the guys we already have. No, unless someone truely above average comes along in the next few weeks, we've made our bed this year.

not for a trade... free agent ehhh...

i think with the 3 we got lets just go ahead this year as planned on qb... finish the competition... its the beginning of training camp

Before we signed Josh McCown? Maybe. Now? No.

What the hell are they doing in Tampa with Josh Johnson 5th string and not getting any reps? WTF? That guy's got some hella talent.

We already know he is mediocre, I am sick of mediocre Qb's already. I want elite Qb's now that are runnning back and O-line situations are solved. If we get a dangerous Qb nothing will scare D's more then knowing that we can run an Air and Land show on them.

isn't tampa bay the QB black hole of the nfl?

IMO he didn't overly impress in college (didn't he lose his starting job at one point?) and did have some strong showings occasionally at TB, but overall his body of work isn't compelling. Now factor in durability issues and I can't see justifying trading anyone but Kircus or Martin for a package of him and some picks. Might be worth signing him though as a FA if Beck continues to disappoint; otherwise probably not. This is a classic case where had his name been "Lipschitz or Constantino" he could well have been competing in the CFL or the Arena League by now.

Putting it into another perspective, if QB-collector Grudin drafted Josh Johnson and values McCown's less impressive brother over him, for all those who argued that we drafted Henne because of Beck's uncertainty, it would be disingenuous of them to lobby for Simms without admitting he's less desirable than an unproven mid-draft rookie, several true journeymen and one of the oldest QBs in the league.

I was speaking to a couple of Bucs fans just the other day. It's their opinion that Chris is not like his father. I know it took Phil a few years to come around, but they really don't believe that Chris is worth the effort.

i was impressed with johnson at the combine. from what i understand though he struggled with arm strength on throws outside the numbers.

i still think if he can't stick as a qb in the pros he may have a future as a specials/wr gimmick play guy like the jets did with former mizzou qb brad smith.

Everyone needs to calm down on Beck. Clearly, he is a project and not ready to play. But we should work with him and maybe he can turn into a Frank Reich type backup.

Chris Simms is a backup type. I've always thought he has a slow release and mediocre arm. Poor man's Brian Griese; he doesn't have Brian's moxie.
