There was a rumour that the Jets were going to try and get Chris Simms after Penningtons injury. Jets denied it and Gruden says he got no call. But what I found interesting was Gruden didnot deny Simms availability. AJ Smith just refuses to discuss Rivers as a trade option. The article says Tampa wants a 1st round pick for Simms which is imo to high but it doesn't say what they would take. With the injury buggabo having yet to visit us and our lack of qb depth is Simms a viable option? I believe he has played reasonably well when in the game but most likely will be stuck behind Griesie for a while. Simms is not the type of player to be satisfied with a role of backup. With the play of the dolphins this year we can forget about Lienart and every team in the nfl wants rivers do we take a look at Simms?

Simms might be a good pickup. He hasn't had much chance to play, but when he has he's done it pretty well. I dont know if we should take a look at him, if we would i want it after the season because right now i dont think we really NEED a QB. Strange as it sounds Frerotte is getting the job done. But in the off-season sure, Simms would be a hell of a lot cheaper way out for a QB and still has some quality.

I Would Love To See If We Can Try To See What The Falcons Would Give Schaub Up For If Anything. I Mean The Times I've Seen Him Play He Does A Pretty Good Job And He's Still Pretty Young I Beleive. But I Agree Any Move Needs To Be Done In The Offseason, Gus Is Getting The Job Done.

simms. i remember him in college. but he doesnt seem to be a NFL QB.

the jets are bent over a chair, so thats why tampa wants a 1st rounder for a player that wouldnt even get a 3rd rounder any other time. if they are gunna give up a first for a QB, they should talk to the chargers.

but then again, the fins gave up a 3rd for gordon. so i guess anything is possible.

a 1st rounder for Simms means the Bucs must be on crack. He wasn't even a first round pick coming out, nor has he even played enough to show he can perform worth a first round pick in return.

Simms is one of the smarter QB's in the league. He would be a good option to look at after the season. He is a nice kid that does not cause waves and works hard. (yes, I know him so maybe I'm being a little overboard).

If he did not get hurt last year, he would most likely still be the starter in Tampa.

What was Simms like a 5th round pick? or maybe a 3rd rounder i cant remember. He's played like 3 games in his career, if the Buccaneers want a 1st rounder they are INSANE.

Lemon is the QB the Donlphins should be targeting. He is listed as the 3rd string QB for the Chargers, but he is only listed as the 3rd string due to Rivers being a 1st round draft pick. Lemon has out played Rivers the last two seasons. I think Lemon is a gem in the rough. Your thoughts?

I'm worried about 3rd stringers thanks to AJ!

Simms just hasn't proven his worth yet. He, unlike Schaub and some other backups, was given the reigns and couldn't cut it...After the way Griese left here, I find it hard to fathom that fans here want Simms, a guy that couldn't beat our Griese (although, most of us know that, as was the case with many, he never had an opportunity here because of the previous regime.) I'm just not that enamored with Simms. He seems to have a weak arm and was slow in reading D's. His delivery seems too be late also.

Schaub, on the other hand, is a very interesting prospect. He seems to be very polished, has a strong arm and plays well within the Hotlanta scheme. But, keep in mind, that their scheme is made purposely for it to be "QB friendly". (read: Vick, while a physical phenom and probably the best athlete in the NFL, is not the sharpest tool in the shed)...I doubt, given Vick's penchant for getting nicked up, that Schaub will be available to anyone else, this season at least (maybe during the offseason ??)

Now, I wonder what has happened with Tim Couch ?? He might be an option in mid-season if someone is in trouble. I would guess that he must have suffered some sort of setback on his comeback bid since there hasn't been any news for about a month when things heated up right after the preseason...He could, at least, be a guy to carry the clipboard for a while until he gets somewhat caught up in the system and is better than chopped liver. That would of course be subject to his health.

Rest assured that if Gus goes down, we will live with Sage and AJ. That'll be our only choices until after the season. Anyone we get now or anytime during the season would just be clipboard holder on the sideline...

Simms has a very strong arm and I know he spends hours watching film of defenses, now I'm not saying he will be a superstar, but theses are facts. Plus he was the starter then got hurt and Griese stepped in and has done a good job. You can't use what Griese did here, nobody would have done well.

The Jets did try to get Simms but Tampa refused, Simms is still the future down there.

I agree with you--trading for 3rd stringers is risky, but this front office wouldn't give up a 2nd rounder like Spielman did for Feeley. I think Lemon could be had for a 5th or 6th rounder--which would be a steal for Lemon.

Problem is the Chargers would not take that, they are high on Lemon and will most likely move Rivers or Brees after the season.

Everyone thought that last year too, but they franchised Brees. They will do the same next year.
