First, news about a free-agent wide receiver:

A story that the Texans reached an agreement with wide receiver Keenan McCardell wasn't right. While McCardell is talking to the Texans, he's also in conversations with the Dolphins and Redskins.

Now, about the second-round draft pick signings:

One of the holdups teams are facing in signing second-round draft picks is teams are trying their best not to give escalators in the fourth year of the contract. ... The NFLPA advised agents to get escalators in the second-round contracts, but teams are winning the early battle. So far, four second-round choices are signed.

Of course, we have two of those four guys signed to deals. Clayton's remark about the escalators probably explains why the club chose to go with a fourth year option on Beck's contract signed Monday.

:cooldude:Where did you get your info about Mccardall. We get so little info over here during the war. We get blocked out of blogs and other item of the same.

The info on McCardell came directly from John Clayton's blog. There wasn't much regarding McCardell, but the quote above was the only reference made about him and Miami. Clayton said that the Texans look like the team that will sign him.

I would much rather see McCardell than Hakim make the team... my two cents atleast...

Teams aren't premitted to sign rookies for deals over 4 years if they were selected past the first round.

Wasn't McCardell upset when Cameron benched him in the playoffs? I doubt he signs here.

i agree with some here, McCardell is past his prime...is he washed up? i cant say that, but i wld much rather see some of our youngsters get busy b4 we go out and sign McCardell...unless we are hiring him to teach Ginn how to be a solid route runner...lord knows that Chambers cant do that

Lets sign mentors for all positions lol. As a fifth reciever he may be more use than anybody else.

McCardell is also a veteran who knows the system and has thrived for 16 years despite not having physical tools that arent great. The guy knows all the veteran tricks, how to get open, and runs some of the best routes in the league. He's probabaly wouldnt be signed to be a big contributor.
