Clayton on Colts QB's

Half the NFL spends time inSouth Florida. It means nothing. If Manning is traded I am fairly certain Irsay will let him pick his destination within reason. Look for the 49ers to be a landing spot. It would be ideal for both sides.

why do you say the 49ers ?? the 8-1 49ers ? hmmmmmmmm seems to me like that there doing pretty good with the QB that they have as of now , imo you can forget about the 9ers trading for manning ,imo that would be stupid to do ,when Mr. Smith is lookin more and more of bcoming a franchise QB for the 9ers.

imo my take on manning and luck is that which ever way the colts go there NOT going to keep both QBs on that team if manning stays and they draft luck it will be for more picks BUT if the decide to go with luck then they WILL pay manning the remaining on his contract and let him go ,but if people think for one min that there keeping both your barking up the wrong tree because neither manning nor luck WILL stand for playing 2nd tuba to the steel gutiar .......:thanks:

no way that happens

How do you figure? Rookie QBs have sat behind veterans in the past? The option with the most probability is that they draft Luck and let Manning play out 2012 and see what happens from there. No reason for them to panic and feel the need to trade the pick or cut Manning.

The entire point to Clayton's quote is he is going to be cut. It has nothing to do with being traded.

You really believe the Colts will cut him? I doubt it when they can get compensation for him. I think Clayton is off on this one.

The smart thing is for Luck to sit behind Manning for 2-3 years, by which time Mannning will have reached the end. Learning at the feet of a master worked wonders for Rodgers, who is now the NFL's best. If it was OK with Favre and Rodgers, why not Manning and Luck?

Simply put the team was built for Manning not Luck. Manning is a QB all his own. The offensive system was built around Manning, the defense was built to play with leads around Manning...you can't simply plug Luck in there and expect the same results. Even if Manning was playing this year I don't think they win more than 6 games. There is no way a team that is going to end up 0-16 is a QB away from being a playoff contender.

Colts will get a new coach, new system and build an entirely different team after this season...I just don't think Manning will want to be part of that process when he wants to make a last run at a super bowl. My guess is the Colts draft Luck, release Manning (at his request cause nobody is going to take on a $28 million dollar contract) and spend the next 3 or 4 years trying to build a team around Luck...considering how crappy they've drafted over the last 3 or 4 years (and it's showing now) it may be easier said than done.

If Colts were smart they would trade down from the #1 spot. Team is ridiculously weak, and this season showed that. Manning was the team, he went down and it was all over. Luck wont be changing that, not to mention it will be a few years for him to mature into the "demi-god" QB everyone on this board makes him out to be.

Reggie Wayne, Addai, Dallas Clark, there whole roster is getting old. O-line is getting old. Basically have to scrap and start all over again.

They have 0 depth.

Colts draft was based around the Manning system and now thats over.

You guys are looking way too much into the, "just swap out Manning for Luck and the Colts are back to the dynasty".

Colts will most likely keep Manning and try to win another title or two (if Manning can get healthy) and trade down from the 1 spot 'ala Ricky Williams.

Manning retires. Colts draft the best NFL prospect with the best arm at the combine (to be determined). Notbuying all in on Luck at the next level until I see the comparables at the combine. Not sure this guy has the cannon the scouts are looking for. This may be the deepest quarterback class in like the history of time, so the Colts can definitely trade out for picks, maybe twice and get a starter. Just remember even JohnElway took a few years to be what he became as a pro. Since Big Ben teams have been more willing to let the rookies get live fire, but it’s still a rarity they come in and light it up. Any rookie quarterback is something of a project as they get up to pro speed.

Yeah it's that simple, just pay 28 million (pocket change obviously) for no reason and then draft a QB that same offseason that will be the next Manning..

It's much cheaper than paying a gimpy Manning $100 million over the next 6 years. Too easy.

If Manning plays at least a portion of a game or 2 this year, showing that his neck is ok and he's good to play, then the Colts would be stupid to cut him. They could get a small fortune in draft picks for him. They are in dire need of draft picks, that team needs help.
