Get rid of everyone with the exception of Brian Gaines to act as interim and ultimately deputy GM.

Call Dan Marino, offer him the bank to take the John Elway role i.e. Exec President of Football Operations and consult quickly to identify targets for General Manager, Head Coach and associated Co-ordinators...

Then spend what it takes to employ a bona fide back office, identify a GM and male him an offer he cannot refuse - Nick Caserio in New England is my choice, also think laterally, if there is a role for a statistical "moneyball" style guru ala Paraag Marathe of the 49ers - do it - build this thing properly and to last.

As far as the coaching staff is concerned Marino is close with Bill Cowher who has apparently already spoken to Dan Snyder, get in now and offer him what it takes to come here and fix this mess. If he says no then approach Jon Gruden - give them carte blanche to bring in there own people - do what it takes. If they want their own GM get them.

An overhaul or band-aid of Philben and a new OC will result in 2011 all over again. The roster is young and has talent and with the correct additions can be turned around quickly.

Marino back will put the Dolphins on the map and would be the catalyst to attract a solid coaching staff once and for all, no more experiments, bandaids or first year coaches learning on the job...

And you think Marino will be great at this job WHY??? He can barely keep up with the guys at CBS
Do people think before they post around here anymore or do they just want to start a thread hoping they can get a reaction so they can feel they got the attention they so desperately crave!?

No a thousand times no. Just because Dan had a golden arm and quick release doesn't mean he makes a good executive. This is a terrible idea.

As much as I like Marino, im not sure this is a good move. I know the dolphins offered him a job, can't remember which, a few years ago and he accepted it, only to turn it down the next day. Probably knew something we didn't, but as long as he is willing to stay on board, it would be good.

In early 2004, Dan Marino briefly returned to the Miami Dolphins as Senior Vice President of Football Operations, but resigned from the newly created position only three weeks later, saying that the role was not in the best interest of either his family or the Dolphin organization.

And by the way. That sir was about the most preposterous combination of drivel I have ever read.
Sorry guys I couldn't help myself

This is when the fun starts for me.

ideas.....love those Ideas! lol

grass greener on the other side! but hey, maybe dan could hire some really nice looking interns. lol

Did anyone think Elway would be a success?

1. Does Dan Marino want to return to the Dolphins? There have been rumors for several years about Marino taking a spot in the front office. He said this week he’d be open to discussing one.

“I always think about getting back involved in football,’’ Marino said on Showtime’s Inside The NFL show. “You see John Elway, how successful he is. It’s something you always think about, getting back into football. It’s something I’d look at, I’d consider.”

Even as a figurehead he would undoubtably bring some credibility back. What is so preposterous about trying to construct a winning foundation to the team - I'm not advocating he be annointed GM, simply a high profile involvement within the organisation, one he knows inside out and has a passion for.

Jow long did marino last the last time he took vp job in miami... About 3 week before he resigned

Marino is a great QB. Don't think he has the most upstairs though. I remember when he was on Howard Stern and they ambushed him with intelligence questions. He didn't know that a hexagon has six sides. I think he said eight. I know it doesn't mean he doesn't have football smarts but come on it's 3rd grade math.

Elway is a Stanford grad and a legitimate business man before this leadership stint with the Broncos. We should not compare on the field prowess to front office potential for success.

My gut is Marino would be an unmitigated disaster. It would leave us all bummed out because he is still a hero to many.
