Clemons/Jones

Ill post here thanks. Anyways theres been numerous threads about this subject since the end of the Pats game. A healthy Clemons isnt something to.be excited about. At least with Jones we havent seen everything he has.

Clemmons was never this bad last year . . . Jones has blown more assignments and taken more bad angles in 2 games than Clemmons did all of last year. Clemmons just isn't smooth at trying to make a play on the ball . . . but I'll take him back there over the potential of Reshad Jones making a pick or 2 this season. Even as a tackler, its not like Jones is a superior tackler . . . I think he is more of a sure tackler, but Clemmons is decent as well.

At FS, Clemmons is a better fit. Is he good enough to be the future there? Probably not, but in 2011 he is the best guy . . . if he is healthy he needs to start and Jones needs to start working out with Y. Bell so he can take his job next year.

Sparano said in his press conference that Jones is the starter, even if Clemons comes back. End of thread.

Sparano is the most stubborn coach in the league. He says we running Bush in between the tackles, he is gonna keep doing it until it works, if that ever happens. He chose Jones over Clemmons, he is gonna see that through, even if he blows 2 or 3 assignments every week.

Honestly, Some people on this forum just copy exactly what TedSlimm says and fail to come up with their own thoughts. Now, Slimm is the most knowledgable poster on this board, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with everything he says. Jones is about 2 notches down from Clemons. One of the sole reasons is communication and that aspect.

I fail to remember anytime Clemons lost us a game single handedly or blew such an important assignment.

However, its not Jones's fault he is playing out of position. Thats the coaches fault.

Maybe it was a Mike Nolan decision?

I understand that K. But ill let Jones grow as a playdr before I throw him aside for a player that isnt exactly a great player. Jones brings a potential that Clemons doesnt. I lovr Clemons. But he isnt that great or really that important atm.

Well to be fair Jones was a 2nd round prospect.

To be fair, where was he drafted? Prospect means nothing. Jones has done nothing so far to show that he is any better than Clemons. I have barely seen him make a play out on the field.

It really doesn't matter, I'm hoping its a health issue. I don't believe its fair to blame the lack of turnovers on a FS that isn't considered to be a playmaker (obviously not saying you said this). Playmaking doesn't exist on this defense, atleast last year we had consistency in communication and had a guy who had the ability to make up ground on those deep balls. We don't have that right now, and it takes more than being labeled a "playmaker" by the Finheaven faithful to create turnovers on the defense.

Jones definitely has the ball skills, but you have to peform as a unit on this level and the breakdowns in communication in the secondary have been for the most part a direct result of Jones manning the FS spot. I do appreciate the quality he is tackling guys with, because that is somthing the defense is struggling with as well . . . but he definitely is taking reps away from the wrong position IMO. And this isn't to say Clemmons is a star, because god knows we could use a stud FS in the near future . . . but I'll ride with Chris until that happens.

I mean seriously, if Bell suffers an injury are we really trotting Culver out there at SS when Jones looks ideal for the position? That would be so typical. More stubborness.

It doesnt do much good to have "good ball skills" when you arent getting your hands on the football. You can have all the ball skills in the world but if you're covering air while a WR is running free it doesnt much matter now does it? At least last year we were in position to make plays, we just dropped a ton of interceptions. This year, we can't even get our hands on the football.

I'll take you over Sparano

Kdawg  Clemons only 1 m.

But even with Chris' 4.3 speed he was late to his fair share or plays. Just like in college.

I saw every game of Clemons college carrer. My grandfather had lifetime tickets before he passed away. I love Clemons and want him to start because I know him, but he's been the same player since college, late to plays with his speed, lacks elite instincts and like hooshoops always says when the balls over his head he just cant react to it.

It really doesn't matter...

I agree that Clemons should be in there, but what I was suggesting is that the criticism for that position should be directed more at Mike Nolan rather than Tony Sparano.

I know CC is only 1 guy, and I don't get overly upset about on the field decisions. But the 3 things that have bothered me ever since the lockout was over was A. Colombo at RT B. Incognito at LG and C. Jones over Clemmons. Not because I don't like Jones, because I do, just not at FS. I seriously feel that he had a major part in about 4 or 5 big plays on this defense this year . . . maybe more. Now Clemmons has been hurt, but honestly, I think I put Culver at FS and let Jones sit at SS. Its dumb to keep putting him in there at FS.

I watched my fair share of Clemson games as well with the Canes being in the ACC and usually facing the Tigers every year or every other year. He is steady, which fits fine in the NFL . . . maybe not as a starter, but as depth. There is a reason a guy with his physcial ability was found in the 5th round. I know he eventually needs to be upgraded, but as of right now, he is the best FS on this team and if he is healthy he needs to start. I can't bear to watch Reshad Jones bite on another play fake or take another bad angle or freelance himself out of a play. Get that kid out of there.

I know Nolan wants a playmaker at FS . . . He had Dawkins in Denver and he had a pretty good FS in San Fran as well (can't think of his name right now). He knows Jones can make plays on the ball, but you are gonna have to let him do that from the SS spot. We are gonna get killed if we can't cause pressure up front and rely on him to be our last line of defense. He wants the stop the run so bad he ends up being a liability in coverage. Hopefully Nolan realizes this.
