You ever get down to the nitty gritty of Jay's contract and how it applies to the cap with option years and roster bonuses? After that chat I'm kinda curious as to how exactly that works out against the cap.

The numbers we know: $4 million signing bonus.
$1.25 roster bonus next march 1st
$2 million option bonus to extend the contract to a 5th year.
$3.7 million base salary for 2004.

I have the $1.25 million roster payable this past March and so does aqua. I have the following:

year: salary/roster bonus/amortized bonus/cap hit

2003: $750,000/$1.25 million/$800,000/$2.8 million
2004: $3.7 million/$2 million(for the 5th yr)/$800,000/$6.5 million
2005: $5.775 million/0/$800,000/$6.575 million
2006(if $2 million paid in 2004): $6.5 million/0/$800,000/$7.3 million

Right now, without any draft choices signed, I have ya about $4 million over a projected 2004 cap of $77.5 million. That's takes the top 51 salaries. Does not include draft pick bonus amortization or Griese. I understand the cap could be higher and I know someone will say that I've included players who won't be on your roster next off-season, but Miami will undoubtedly sign training camp fodder next oof-season and some will be included in the top 51, so this assumption is a correct one.
