Clyde Gates Finally Gets a Deep Ball Catch

It's great to think that Gates is going to supplant Hartline in some situations. Hartline is still good as a speed guy on intermediate routes (in Daboll's offense he honestly reminds me a bit of Welker) but Gates is the guy we've seen since Ginn to at least have the speed to be a consistent deep threat.

Why is he like Welker? Cause he's white?

Hartline is not like Welker at all. They are 2 different type of receivers. Bess is more like Welker only not quite as good.

You guys underrate Hartline so much. Hartline is talented and a lot faster than you are giving him credit for. He is better than a lot of teams 2nd best WR.

Nope..Gates stopped to wait for the ball then he was tackled. If Moore could thow the 3 yards further it's a TD cause Gates had smoked the DB period :-)

It will take our QBs time to get used to throwing the ball to him a bit further out than you would most open WRs running deep. Dude is just too fast for his own good. QBs on our team will have to realize there is no such thing as overthrowing Clyde Gates and make the appropriate adjustment.

It's the white guy with speed, change of direction, and toughness. There are similarities between Welker and Bess in that they both play the same position and produce, but Welker always looked like a shark darting through traffic whereas Bess seems to swim through the defense, and not even necessarily extremely quickly.

Yes, Hartline reminds of Welker because he is white and he is fast and they literally both look the same when they are wearing the Dolphin uniform and going over the middle very quickly, which is what Welker did and which is what Hartline just now started doing a lot now the Daboll is OC. I didn't say they played the same.

Can't wait to see him get behind Revis

Rex won't waste his time putting Revis on Gates.
Revis will be busy holding Brandon Marshall to 3 catches for 26 yards ... or something close to that.

Revis and Cromartie(Beavis and Butthead) are going to get ****ing TOASTED!!!!

Bring on the Jests!!!!

Let me get this straight ...
Gates beats Scrubby Scrubman for one catch, so now he's going to run wild against two of the best corners in the league?
Ok

But I love the ****-talking! ... Should be fun :D

First I'd like to say about your first comment on Revis holding Marshall to 2-4 catches or whatever ou said, Marshall will be covered by Cromartie just like the last 2 games and Revis will handle Bess and Gates in the Y positions and sometimes Hartline in the X position.

And you have the best CB in the league sure, but your best CB in the league doesn't do very good against speed and thats what Gates brings, and since Marshall always lights up Cromartie and Henne always brings is A game against New York It's going to be a good day for the 'Phins when their destroying some Jet D!

We've seen Gates beat corners in every single preseason game. I don't think he's near good enough at this point to run all kinds of routes and get open against great corners, but if you're asking him to get downfield, he's got the speed to literally outrun the defense unless they bring a safety over the top. And it's awesome that the Dolphins showed this in multiple preseason games (even if Gates didn't always get the ball thrown accurately) because now teams know that they will have to adjust their coverage to protect deep and that will open things up elsewhere.

Even if his one skill that he has shown simply amounts to him being a great decoy, that's a dangerous skill for the Dolphins when you consider we'll be fielding Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, and even Hartline who can get big yards when there is an opening.

I just love that Safeties will be fearing this guy.....opens up so many possibilities. Will be nice when he starts getting hit in stride too.

Gates has been open a lot, the ball just hadn't been getting there nicely yet. I guess speed like that takes getting used to for Henne and Moore.

The part about Cromartie having trouble with Marshall is correct ... and exactly the reason why Revis will be on him most of the time. Cromartie was on Marshall in the first game last year only because Revis wasn't there. He got hurt in the previous game against the Pats. In the second game Revis did cover Marshall, and you passed for a total of 55 yards in that game. When Revis covered Marshall the previous year in Denver, I think Marshall caught about 2 passes for 20 yards. You can look it up.

Cromartie will be on Hartline. Revis will be on Marshall.

I still say just throw it up anywhere near Marshall and he'll bring it down over a corner. We played scared too often last year in that regard. Let the Beast be a beast...I think Daboll will be more aggressive in that regard and take advantage of Marshall's attributes.

Jason Allen also once held Brandon Marshall to 2 catches for 27 yards. Either way, I really think last year our offensive output was based as much on how incompetent we were that week as who corners we were playing. We had ugly numbers nearly every week, and at times we made every corner look as good as Darrelle Revis thinks he is.

There's a whole lotta reason to think we will be tremendously more productive this year, even if I'm still skeptical that Henne will be able to turn increased production into W's as often as he should.

they better not put that island on gates because ( when the Gates close the island will sink ) lmao
