Clyde Gates leads the league in Kick Return yards.

And I'd guess we lead the league at starting inside the 10 yard line to.

Where does he rank with return average? He has had more kick-off opportunities than anyone else? Not a stat worth getting excited about.

gates hasn't done anything really back there...looks timid also on returns...but i have no idea on gods green earth wtf sparano was doing with bess handling all punt return duties in san diego...backed up near your goalline ok i get it you want ball security but with an opportunity for a big return outside the 20 my god man put gates back there...

but i digress

According to NFL.com the Dolphins are 21st in KR average and 12th in PR average. Neither really excites me but a 22.1 KR when starting 7 yards deep in the endzone equals bad field position. We would be better off taking the touchback in most situations...that sucks!

Also, from what I have seen, Gates may have fantastic speed but has absolutely no vision when it comes to returns - NONE! He can not find the crease to save his life.

What a bogus stat.

He has the most yards because he has the most kick returns.

He is also 41st in the NFL in RETURN AVERAGE.

The thing that stands out about his kick off returns is his really poor judgement and decision making. One reason that his average is so poor is that he seems to have no idea of when it is a good kick to take back or a poor one. Someone needs to take some chalk and draw a area in the endzone where it is a good idea to run the ball out and even more important, when to take a fair catch so we can at least have the ball out to the 20 yard line.

when you have 6+ kick returns a game of course you can lead the league in KR yds....

Success by volume... Imagine what Livas might have done. The NFL is littered with Mulett castoffs that were not good enough for a roster spot on this team, imagine that.

It semi cracks me up when people will say that Phillip Livas "only ran back one punt for a touchdown" in preseason.

D Bess has never ran back a punt for a touchdown. In his entire life.

I hate to say something like this but this is where you find out who really knows about all aspects of the game of football and who does not.

Yes, Phillip Livas ONLY ran one punt for a TD. But he changed the way that teams kicked to us. They lost yards kicking short, kicking long and kicking out of bounds. Livas also had great awareness. He always seems to know where he is on the field and if the ball is going to roll into the endzone or die on the two.

He is a natural return guy, one reason being that he has so much experience doing it. In college he ran back 4 punts and 4 kick offs for TDs. That is 8 more then anyone else on the team. C Gates has zero kick or punt returns for TDs.

If you still have the games from preseason, notice when P Livas comes out and the other teams start kicking to whoever is our return guy.

I'm still so sick that we ignored the return game and blew the opportunity with Livas. We'd probably have at least one win by now. Mangement probably too prideful to admit mistake and bring him back. We're idiots.

I'd rather have Livas than Spitler, need to use gates more in the offense anyway.

He leads the league in attempts... His return avg probably puts him near the bottom of the league.

I'm sure that's been brought up in this thread already. He's not a good returner. Solid proof of how deceptive numbers taken out of context can be.

Nothing to be proud of folks, move along...

Well jeez if Livas was so good why is he playing in the UFL? That's right he wasn't good enough to even make a practice squad for any team.
