Clyde Gates says he played with a torn groin last season

Looking to take a late-round fantasy flyer on Gates.

Would be a good gamble to take, I'd imagine.

I think he's gonna surprise some of you guys. I think he's a homeless person's Mike Wallace; even with a torn groin that boy could fly. I predict he'll have around 30 catches, lead the team in yards per reception, stretch the field, and you'll all generally be happy with him after the year. That said I still think we'll be looking to add another dynamic receiver through the draft or FA next year to put opposite of Hartline.

This. I think the dude's more raw than Eddie Murphy's stand-up special. With the right coaching, I think he'll be a solid player.

Gates is the low man on the totem pole at this point. That is why we drafted and signed several receivers. I will not be surprised to see him cut.
If he makes the team..good for him. I am expecting Philbins guys to make the squad.

Gates is an Ireland drafted player in his first "solo draft", i dont see any way Ireland just cuts Gates a 4th round pick who we all knew was raw and developmental but the upside there is huge, again remember there was no rookie offseason last year, a QB change, coaching change, new O-Coordinator and with veterans like Marshall/Bess/hartline in stone starting last season with Moore/Wallace who were there before Gates and knew the coaching staff, there was very little room for Gates to make an impact

He has the speed but so far lacks the routes and sure hands. Doesn't matter if you get there first and drop the ball.

Hopefully that torn groin was a big part of his lack of production. Or it could've been Sparano. Or he was a rookie! Who knows, but Gates by far has the most potential of any WR on this team and it would do us wonders if he could step up and become Victor Cruz-esque. He's probably about the same speed and he has some jumping ability from bball. I really hope Gates makes a role for himself on our team.

It makes me laugh how some of you guys have higher hopes for the late round/undrafted receivers we have over Gates (and Wallace), who have had some NFL experience and it is definitely their time to show they are legit NFL caliber players

To add to the fact that our offense is high tempo we have a lot of speed on our WR squad.

Clyde Gates - WR - Dolphins
Dolphins WR Clyde Gates revealed that he played all of his rookie season with a torn groin.

Gates said he "fought through" the injury, though it's not known if he underwent surgery. Now healthy, Gates is expected to compete for the starting job opposite Brian Hartline. Though he was the fastest receiver in last year's draft, Gates' pre-snap reads and route running left a lot to be desired in 2011. Per Rotoworld

Now that he is healthy, I hope he tears it up this year.
not suprised....torn groins were all but common last season with the lockout. Even veterans suffered the fate. Not of concern.

THe dolphins are going to be scoring points from everywhere, kinda like when brady burst on the seen. It was hard to defend because they 5th wr was catching touchdowns (bethel johnson gave us fits getting behind our s

I expect the coaching to coach him up. If the dude could just learn the simple routes in this system where he hits the hole which will be expected then Gates could be a stud. The guy is putting it out there "to believe" so I will believe provided he works hard at learning the system and making the eyepopping play that takes it to the house.

Gates last year was under the "no offseason" Sparano way. Its up to Philbin to get him right. Instead of the simpleton straight line bomb, he needs to be more like wes welker. just find the hole, move forward and make people miss. If he is not seen doing simple routes across the field, He will find himself lost. But the kid started to return kicks well as season progressed.

We will certainly see in the coming months.

I think a lot of the '11 draft class is going to make many Dolfans eat crow, with a proper off season to prepare and time to heal up. Gates and Thomas will impress next year.

Not sure of the exact numbers but he had something like 14 passes thrown to him last season, he caught two of them. But the other 12 were considered "uncatchable".

He can beat almost anyone deep, our goal is hit him while he is on the fly. He also had zero WR screens, reverses etc. As I said earlier, Thomas, Clay and Gates all played their rookie season with nagging hamstring, groin injuries that they had before the season started.

I really hope so because we have a lot riding on our WR core making big strides this year and he is one of the few that has homerun speed...

The kid seems to have the determination to contribute, given the B.I.M. t-shirts and all.

Welker??? That´s difficult...Welker´s value doesn´t come from his speed, or YAC only, it´s from an exact and precise connection and synchronization with his QB...in Mia, he was just good, not a FHOF like he is today

don't sleep on this kid is all i'm gonna say...there's plenty of talent its just raw talent...plenty of upside...i look for a break out season here...

i just hope when this kid beats the corner like a drum against single high we can put the ball on him...cause any safety who's not cheating presnap in that look will not get there if he doesn't have to break stride
