With BM gone to Chicago I see this kid stepping right in and make a strong case for himself.
He's fast as the dickens.
 
There was a lot of talk about him last season, but he disappointed. Maybe a new offense will help.
 
I'm really anxious to see what he can do with short routes. He seemed to only be thrown the deep ball last year. I want to see what he can do with the ball in his hands

are u kidding me? every damn wr we had last season was dissappointing because we have no qb to get them the ball. PLz dont even say chad henne, matt moore was better.
 
Yea and so many predicted he would light it up last year. So far he is just a fast guy, who knows what he will become.
 
Guy is super fast & super raw. He has the size and athletic ability that Philbin seems to favor. However, he is going to have to prove that he can run precise routes if he is going to succed here.
 
Yeah if he could learn to catch he would be a great receiver. He may want to put on some muscle too if he wants to be anything more than a deep threat.
 
Im excited to see Gates break out but I had him listed more as a #2 Receiver, Bess at the slot with BM at #1.

Reminds me of Desean Jackson. Hope he steps up.

no offense but what about gates reminds you of desean jackson.
jackson is so much more elusive than Gates
 
Hopefully he has been working on his route running. Straight line speed isnt a problem, he just needs to run better routes and keep up his speed in and out of breaks. Hes explosive, so I am hoping he has a big year running some intermediate routes this year.

U know I hate to do this but I have to go the x-poc, dlockz, flynryan, and jcane route here... Looking at stats and playing time, gates couldnt hold ginn's jock and that isnt saying much at all. I liked how everyone liked that Gates went head on for kick returns and took hits "like a man" because we were tired of ginn running out of bounds. I'd prefer a guy who runs into a brick wall at the 14 yardline as opposed to a puss who goes out at the 50 because he was gonna get leveled. I hope gates steps up because if he doesnt than UDFA moore and wallace need to save us, which they won't. You now need a manningham/wallace type of hopeful #1 and a draft pick to save this WR core.
 
Gates is so fast he didn't run back a kick return last year! LMFAO He's a back up bench warmer so far. Let's give Teddy Ginn a call at least he could be our kick returner!
 
It takes WRs a season or two. The new offense could help. Besides his speed he didn't really show much in the passing game. Maybe it was lack of route running or just not fitting the offense. He needs to stop taking the ball out of the end zone 10 yards deep as well.

Potential is there. I don't see him being a star. Maybe a decent deep threat.

The loss of Marshall also opens up some chances for Moore and Wallace, who I believe could also be good fits in this system. We shall see.
