C'MON MAN- Phillip Wheeler

Missed tackles hurt and the inability to get off the field on 3rd downs. This is a good defense, the amount of 3rd and longs the Bengals faced is a testament to that. We just don't have anyone who can cover an AJ Green kind of player. Also, the 40 yard Gio run, lets not beat ourselves up on that.. the D had been on the field for more than an hour with only a short break. They were gassed, they did a good job flying to the football and should have had him for a loss, I think fatigue played a huge role in that 4th quarter.

I might get criticized for this but… I would consider Jordan as a replacement. The kid is a stud and seems to be behind OV on the depth chart and has reduced reps because of it, especially more so now if Wake is back fully.

Get that athlete on the field and let him do something… I was intrigued by this thought after I saw him covering Gronk down the field last week. It will also give him more space to work in and use that speed/athleticism. Could add a spark to the LB corps which is a bit spent right now and has been for a good few weeks.

I'd love to see Jordan play more of the Von Miller role. I definitely don't understand why Trusnik comes in to play over Jenkins and Jordan at LB.

Wheeler has been such a bad signing and I think ellerbe isn't far behind. Anyone notice much drop off when trusnik and Jenkins are in? Looks like they're all just as bad as each other.

If I were Kevin Coyle I'd be thinking about replacing Wheeler with Misi and Misi with Jordan, putting Wheeler in the situational role Jordan currently occupies.

Situational player with that contract?! Hope we can get out of that deal at seasons end.

Wheeler is a terrible 2 down LB, he should be a 3rd down pass rush specialist, more than anything else. I hated this F/A signing, he's worthless unless he's moving forward attacking the LOS.

Totally agree. We need to take action. Wheeler and Reshad Jones are stinking the place up in the middle of the field.

Not trying to be negative nancy but this needs to be addressed. This segment is dedicated to Wheelers' poor tackling! I can't believe the rookie showed us up the way he did last night. Gio Bernard ran all the way from one side of the field to the other side and STILL took it to the house! Puhhlease Wheeler should of had him wrapped up behind the line. C'MON MAN!!! Well at least our boy Ellerbe looked stout but damn Wheeler needs to start tackling better and even his coverage is questionable at best. It's not like we have someone on the current roster that could push him for his spot so we really NEED to address the LB position in the draft because we are lacking depth my friends!

I'm not defending Wheeler he has to get better. However, if you have watched Bernard at all you would come to expect something like that kind of run. I watched him while he was at North Carolina and he was such a menace to opposing defenses. He made people miss every run and made several spectacular plays like he did against Miami. He has been making people miss all this season. He is really good and shifty so it doesn't surprise me at all. Was hoping we had picked him in the draft. Thought he and Miller would have made a great pair in the backfield.

Wheeler had a down day for sure, our whole team couldn't tackle and were gassed for most of that second half. But he's made some nice plays this season and I like how they use him in blitz packages. Wheeler is a good starter in this league, not a world beater but I think we need to pump the breaks on replacing him in the lineup.

I love it! Let's do that. He can cover better, not sure yet about his tackling, but imagine sending him on a blitz? Odrick, Soliai, Wake, Vernon and Jordan up the niddle on a blitz? Scary as ****.

I'll be in the minority. I don't mind Wheeler, nor Ellerbe.
Yes, they've had some lackluster games, but they've also had great games. That's at least more than I can say about Dansby.
However, with hindsight 20/20, I would have kept Burnett just for team chemistry sake, and still got rid of Dansby. Dude was just overpaid to be a mediocre captain.

I do want to see Jordan out there more. I don't care how well Vernon or Misi are playing. Dude needs to get much more substantial reps and get more experience sooner than later. His cieling is so high.

the defense was winded esp after back-toback drives to start the 3rd. People here had problems with Dansby and Burnett too.

I agree. The D was out of gas. The pick 6 during that long drive was great, but it put the defense right back on the field for a total of just under 13 minutes of the 3rd quarter. Gio is an amazing talented RB that barely played in the first half, than they unleashed him in the third quarter. I was not surprised when that play happened because the D was already tired.

I'm a little biased but,C.J. Mosely would be perfect for this defense.

Link?

My question is are we stuck with his contract now?

Ellerbe in my eyes has been very productive
