Coach Golden " Fins have 3 first rounders"

LOL

That damn Coach Golden. Look at him.

One hell of a salesman for sure.

And in related news, Coach Golden (What an appropriate name) has announced that there were actually 6 first round picks in the 2012 draft.

In no particular order:
Travis Benjamin
Lamar Miller
Sean Spence
Tommy Streeter
Olivier Vernon
Brandon Washington....

He is expecting even MORE 1st rounders to be picked in the 2013 draft.........

before combine and all the offseason stuff i saw martin being miami's being #1 pick, so yeah he dropped big time, and i did see millers name going mid 20's. players dont fall for no reason, but also players that do fall have this million dollar chip on their shoulder they lost. and ive always said most players are about the money and getting paid. its one of reasons why i like chad johnson, he said he likes to use his money and fame to make others happy

Lamar Miller left college early to get what money he could.

He knows that shoulder is busted.

Dude never had a shot at the first round.

This happens every year...Players fall for a reason.. There was a time when Maurice Clarett was thought to be a first rounder...Look how he turned out.

True. Coach Golden was talking about potential to play like one down the road. Only time will tell but I'm hoping he's right.

Jon Gruden said that "having potential" means that they have not done anything yet.

This is some homerism hyperbole.

If they were that wonderful Golden would have made sure they played another season.

Not sure how he could have stopped them from coming out early.

i'm sure every college coach would do the same for thier drafted players so it's really no big deal. Like JCane mentioned Miller's shoulder may limit his upside and Vernon has a long way to go but I like the fact that they are at least considering the local teams players for drafting. How many great Canes have we passed on that went on to be elite in the NFL ?

This is the best draft the Dolphins have had in a while for sure, but it definitely could've been better IMO.

I think we're just unused to decent drafts.

I don't buy "four 1st round picks"...nor "three 1st round picks". I didn't think Lamar Miller was really worth a 1st round pick and I certainly don't think Olivier Vernon was worth that much. All you have to do is look at the potential pass rushers that could be in the 2013 NFL Draft to realize that Vernon's being a 3rd round pick is as much a function of a bare class as anything else. Good player, I think Miami can count on him long term to produce, but only in certain ways and he would have to keep developing into something he's not been, in order to be a long term three down starter at defensive end. I thought Jonathan Martin in the 1st was a little bit of a stretch but he was pretty good value where the Dolphins got him.

Truthfully the guy that may be highly underrated is Michael Egnew, not Olivier Vernon. Usually you can't get that combination of Egnew's pure athletic ability (the kind that actually proves itself in the numbers) and production without paying for it at that position. If he played with different QBs in a different offense that didn't make his production so screen-heavy, he probably does go higher. This isn't Adrien Robinson, who has absurd athletic potential but hardly played and hardly produced.

Kheeston Randall was an interesting pickup too, because I have seen guys like him go in the 3rd round before. Reminds me a little of Cam Thomas only lighter and quicker.

They did a good job augmenting the draft class with UDFAs. Reluctantly I'm probably going to have to end up admitting that Jeff Fuller was a good UDFA addition. I just have a problem with guys I see play like he did at times in 2010 and 2011, but maybe that's just frustration from knowing their potential, and maybe it's the potential that matters most. But Jonas Gray, I still think that's going to be an out of the park homerun as a UDFA addition (keeping in mind that the standard fate of UDFAs is a quick exit off the roster). Really look forward to seeing more of Josh Samuda too.

I agree, I like Egnew a lot. He should help early as a seam threat.

I actually like this draft a lot outside of Tannehill. I think that Martin was a great value and a potential day 1 starter at RT, I liked Egnew a lot as a pass catching TE at Mizzou, and I think that Miller and Kaddu were potential steals. I'm not saying that Miller is the next Chris Johnson, but I think he could very well be a poor man's version of that type of elite player. Somewhere between Reggie Bush and Chris Johnson maybe as long as he stays healthy.
My problem has always been with Tanny. I honestly don't think that he's a long term upgrade over Matt Moore, but we shall see.

Both very good comments and I agree for the most part. As a lifelong Dolphin and Cane fan i am somewhat biased in my opinion.

They rolled the dice on Miller and that's something we never do. Big time talent or injury bust who knows ? I like that they took a shot at something special even if they fail.

The same can be said for Gray. Even though he did not cost a draft pick his upside is excellant if he can get healthy.

UM is falling program.

Fair enough. The people that don't like Tannehill, I mean it's not like I can't see WHY they don't like him. I can see it. I just also have no vision for how he fails at the next level. I know his weaknesses. But everything is self-contained, if you have failings in one area then your strengths in another area could outweigh them. It's all about how many tools are in your tool box and how sharp they are. I see the Henne-type weaknesses that have people worried but he's got strengths and tools that Henne couldn't dream of, and so overall I just can't imagine how that doesn't result in at least a decent starter. But if you think Matt Moore is more than a decent starter, then I see where you're coming from. I just personally do not share that opinion on Moore.

Ultimately, here is what I think Miami got:

1. QB Ryan Tannehill - Top 8-12 at his position
2. RT Jonathan Martin - Long term starter
3. DE Olivier Vernon - Rotation player
4. TE Michael Egnew - Top 10-15 at his position
5. RB Lamar Miller - Half of a two-headed rushing attack
6. LB Josh Kaddu - Special teams only
7. WR B.J. Cunningham - Out of league within four years
8. DT Kheeston Randall - Rotation player
9. WR Rishard Matthews - Long term #2/#3 receiver
10. RB Jonas Gray - Half of a two-headed rushing attack

I agree with most of what you said in yr draft evaluation. I just think that Kaddu has a lot of upside and versatility.
As far as Moore vs Tannehill goes, I think that Moore is a borderline starting QB right now and a great backup... Long term I see his upside as being a "pretty good" QB, he can win with a great team but he won't be able to carry anybody. Ironically I think that's what Tannehill's upside is. I think he is a more athletic version of Sanchez as a prospect. I think that his arm strength is overrated and I hate how he played small against OK st, Texas, Oklahoma, and in many ways Arkansas too.

Miller played well but Vernon missed most of the year suspended. I did not see any post that said U M had a good season last year.

If you really are a Dolphins fan, I'm guessing you understand just how important a good QB can make an average team.
