I am hopeful that no matter what Ireland does to destroy the organization, our new coach can take whatever ingredients he has, and make a successful season out of this.
Look what Harbaugh did for SF. If Philbin is the man, maybe we can be just at successful. Harbaugh made Alex Smith really good this year. I'm hoping we prove everyone wrong with a great season. I'm hoping we can silence some of the former players who tell other FA's not to come here.
Do you think Philbin is able to pull a Harbaugh here?

i got news for ya, philbin and ireland are probly more on the same page with each other and are collaboratively working towards getting the players philbin is looking for than you think.

People say we have done nothing this offseason. Why does firing Sparano and getting Philbin not ever placed in the "offseason transactions" category?

And people are defending those short sighted fools protesting in Davie . . . please. If Ireland was the "big problem" on peoples mind, they would have protested when Sparano got fired that Ireland should go with him. So now because Manning disses half the leauge (us included) and we pass on a 4 year backup and a QB who wasn't coming here anyway we are all pissy. Please.

once we get a couple playmakers on Offense from the draft and i think everyone will calm down.

While JH did have a dramatic effect on SF, he had more control than Philbin has been given over player/personnel decisions. But regardless, I do also have high hopes for Philbin to do a lot for this team. In fact I think he will get more out of the talent than most would have gotten, but my problem is that with recent and on-going decisions he's going to be handcuffed with limited talent.

Why didnt Flynn sign with the Fins again? It wasnt because of Philbin was it? Just curious

It was because they didn't think he was worth what Sea was willing to give him. I believe Philbon had to have a big part in that say since they were considering Smith for around the same $$.

Philbin will build the offense around the draft. this is a good thing for the franchise. One Reason Moore and Gerrard only have 1 year contracts. I actually believe Philbin will work with GM to draft 2 QBs.

finfan54 and fishbanger have it all wrong. Watch and see.

There will be NO QB drafted this year and Philbin is NOT being given the players he wants.

I can already see the disconnect between Philbin's player desires and what ireland wants to sign. If Ross steps in and makes ireland sign the guys Philbin wants, there is hope but I don't see it happening.

Feel free to check with me after the draft and see if i am not 100% correct. I hope I am wrong... but I'm not.

i dont think so because this is really about "yo momma a ho?"
It does keep coming back to that though doesn't it? You have to ask what kind of a man, a professional in his field would think to ask such a question. People on a message board are one thing but a GM of an NFL team asks a potential draftee that question.

Your post makes no sense. I suspect Philbin has had a big role in some of these personnel decisions, but Ireland is allowing himself to take the heat so that the new coach doesn't have to get on the defensive.
On a previous thread, I believe it was CK who described a typical Philbin type of WR and Marshall didn't fit that description. I think it was Philbin who wanted to rid this organization of the mercurial Marshall. I also think that Philbin wasn't convinced that Flynn could be the long term starter for this team. Philbin wants to build HIS offense.
With respect to Manning, it always seemed that the push to acquire him was coming from Ross. I think Manning may have sensed that as well.

Only in the minds of certain people. You obviously have never owned a business or interviewed prospective employees, especially those commanding a high salary. The question was entirely appropriate in the context with which it was asked.
It was made public by Bryant or one of his confidants, NOT Ireland.
