Forget Joe Philbin's interview (which is a good listen, btw)...listen to Rich Gannon.
For background, Gannon and Schein on Sirius NFL Radio have been big time critics of Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins. Gannon thought the Dolphins should pass on him at #8, thought he should fall in the Draft, etc. Schein of course is all over the Dolphins on every topic. So Gannon is speaking as a former CRITIC of Tannehill's.
Asked when the Dolphins need to play Tannehill...
"Joe I think you have to be smart with him, I really do. You have to take into consideration he played just 19 games in college, he is kind of raw, he's young. I was really impressed with what I saw yesterday. I mean, just his footwork, his mechanics for a bigger guy, I think he's got a chance to obviously get stronger. I really liked the way he threw the ball, I think he's got plenty of arm talent. I think he's going to be a really good quarterback. I just think that you've got to be patient. If you want to throw him out there Week 1 and see what happens, good luck. I think he's a guy that's going to need time. I think maybe at the halfway point of the season depending on how things are going, we could see more of him, but I think they've got a good plan in place. They've got two veteran quarterbacks they kind of like, I think David Garrard has come in and done some good things. Remember now, this guy was a pretty good player down in Jacksonville before the injury, and I think he's hungry. He's hungry to show that he can come back and still play at a high level. Matt Moore, the guy that's been overlooked consistently everywhere he's been, he's got the chance to play. He's kind of a gamer. I think (Tannehill) should be sandwiched between those two guys, let him learn, let him grow a little bit, develop. He knows the system, but it's a question of getting more and more comfortable with the footwork, the timing, the rhythm and of course these complicated NFL defenses. But I just think he's going to be a really, really fine player once he figures things out."
