Coach Sparano's press conference up - 20 minutes

Interesting that Andrew Gardner and Mark Lewis lead the whole team in scrimmage snaps at 103 and 102, respectively. Sparano was asked whether playing well gets you more snaps or less snaps and he said unequivocally more, when you play well they will start to get you some more snaps to see you do more.

That's a great sign for Lewis. I said before this is not necessarily a guy that is training camp fodder. This is a guy that is very physical, plays disciplined, finishes plays, and has natural instincts for leverage. He also has a very dumpy looking, athletically limited body. As a result of athletic limitations, he can frustrate you sometimes redirecting to pick up a delayed blitzer or something along those lines. But Shawn Murphy, Phil Merling, Andrew Gardner and Nate Garner were all guys that they have pointed out needed to work on their bodies, getting their bodies in great NFL shape, but have potential once they get that accomplished.

I personally think that Mark Lewis is another that fits right into that. Recently when talking about Murphy, Sparano said that they saw a real physicality to him at the college level, but that he was raw and needed a lot of work on his body. From having watched Mark Lewis play at Oregon, I think he fits into the exact same boat. The primary difference here is that teams still wanted Murphy to where Miami had to get him at the top of the fourth round. Teams think too little of Mark Lewis' body and athletic ability, they let him go undrafted. That means Miami can probably get away with stuffing Lewis on the practice squad for a year.

Yeah, Lewis doesn't seem like camp fodder so far. I should have said JD Quinn instead.

Not too surprising that two O-linemen are leading in snaps.... we know that O-line still has questions to be answered for now and the future.

I wonder how many snaps Lewis would be taking if Donald Thomas was in the battle.

He didn't even make it to camp in order to be camp fodder. I think they just signed him so that they could bully him as a rookie into supplying the booze at all of the team barbecues and whatnot.

I do remember though that most of the people out there were sure that J.D. Quinn had a good chance of making the roster and that he's way better than Mark Lewis. That happens every time some writer puts the weasel in the chicken run by saying that a guy "was graded a high round draft pick before ________." I love those statements. Very rarely true.
