"We're further ahead than I thought we would be," he said Tuesday. "I thought we would have to pull back a lot of the game plan on both sides, a lot of the playbook. I don't really feel like that right now."

Though the Dolphins are learning a new offense, the first team has moved the ball effectively in its past two pre-season games. The offense gained 277 yards and scored 17 points in the first half against Carolina, and had 176 yards and 10 points in the first half against Tampa Bay.

The running game needs work, but Chad Henne is second in the NFL with 446 passing yards this pre-season with a sparkling 93.4 passer rating.

Sparano said the "walk-through" practices - implemented when two--a-day practices in pads were eliminated - were surprisingly helpful.

"We've been able to work mentally, just the straight mental part of the game out there for an hour on some nights and really grind on that part of it," he said. "I don't think when we looked at it initially we thought, 'Well maybe we'd be able to get good work at this.' "

Tony if the OLine comes out against New England and dominates their DLine . . . you will look like such a genius. Glad you are confident because I'm nervous as hell with "limited" action I have seen/heard about these guys.

You and me both. I am dreading what Wilfork and Haynseworth could do to our interior line.

On a side note, could it actually be possible that the player led practices by Henne and Long actually helped with the install of the offense and the players are more comfortable/up to speed because of it. Na, couldn't be, just ask all the Henne bashers on this site. He will never be a starting QB in the league no matter what kind of offense he gets to run or how it may be better fitted to showcase his skills. And don't forget no matter what his teammates say about his leadership none of them respect him which made those player only practices a sham.

Since this regime came aboard they have been veiled in secrecy. Hopefully the success Henne has had will get even better when the preseason mask is removed. Along with that hopefully the Oline will get a boost with some more specific play design. I also think against Tampa we really were trying to get a groove with our run game when we could have moved the ball a lot more efficiently through the air. Making that games outcome more lilkely to be in our favor.
