I firmly believe that the coaching change to philbin and his guys will already make a huge difference, a bigger difference than any free agent we could've signed.

Before you rip me, hear me out.

Sparano flat out sucked at coaching, developing talent, scouting talent, game management, game planning, speaking etc. Sparano really had no direction. You could here when he talked he sounded lost like he didn't know what to say.

Now philbin seems like he's been planning this for some time. When he was interviewed by miami he had a thick binder made up for when he got a head coaching chance. This guys got a plan, hes been a part of a winning organization and he seems to know what he wants...what direction he's headed in.

I honestly believe the coaching change will have way more of an impact than any player we could have or will have acuired this offseason.

peyton manning would have made a bigger difference for us short term than any coach...heck with that guy provided he's healthy you don't even really need a dang coach...just get out of the way and let that man do work

Well obviously peyton manning would have but thats a once in a lifetime player, he's a qb/coach...I meant we could've signed top name free agents but if we had sparano he would find a way to make them suck...philbin has a specific direction he sees this team going and I think its gonna pay off in the long run...he seems extremely prepared.

I agree with the OP. Patching this team with an overpriced free agent is chasing your tail.
This team needs more. Sparano and his cronies were horrible at developing players.
We need a coach that can make players better football players.
Fans don't understand that. A big name is always more attractive than building the team with quality players as a whole.
Paying Manning 20 million dollars wasn't going to help this team's future. Besides we are more that a QB away from a SB.

the colts went from a year in year out double digit wins and postseason team to the worst record in football and the top pick without manning and you want to tell me a qb like peyton doesn't make all the difference in the world??? well i guess agree to disagree...this team right now would be contending for a division champ and playoff contender if manning had chosen miami and provided he stayed healthy...he would have made all the difference in the world...philbin can be gods gift to coaching til he gets a qb that can execute his vision to the highest level its not gonna matter squat...we'll be treading water

like i said agree to disagree if anyone sees it any different...

Other than Manning I agree with what your saying. I believe this team has a helluva lot more talent than our records have shown as of late.

No doubt manning would've made a difference but he goes down then were back to square one, like the colts.

The year brady got hurt cassel looked like a super star because the coach has a system in place that gets the best out of his players. Same thing in gb, flynn comes off the bench n the offense doesn't lose a step. Same thingthing with kolb in philly. The colts...not so much. Its way more important for long term success to have a system in place because all these teams that do don't seem to lose a step(well maybe one step, pats obviously ain't the same without brady) when they lose their qb.

Reminds me of when Sean Payton when to the Saints. I'm not saying we will have that type of success but I believe he is the best coach in the league (besides bb) and even though they do have a HOF qb I think he has a lot to do with it

Belichick was nothing before Brady. He was run out of Cleveland (although he had some great defenses there) cause he couldn't settle the QB situation.

Sean Payton got Drew Brees to sign to help him in his career.

One can only hope that Philbin can do here what Harbaugh did in San Fran...although our O-line is not as good as theirs and we don't have a Frank Gore or Vernon Davis to carry the offense. Their defense was ridiculous as well, they created something like 38 turnovers I think and play in a weak division....yeah, upon further review Philbin won't get that lucky here, lol.

I'm not expecting much this year, maybe 6-10 again, but I am looking for more progress. I want to see a team that's playing better towards the end of the season then at the beginning. This team, despite winning more games down the stretch last year, was pretty consistant in their play. We really didn't get better or worse we just got a few more breaks down the stretch and had fewer turnovers...I guess that would be one area we did improve on.

Not if you'd have to cut nearly your entire team just to afford him.

that wouldn't have happened...thats just a excuse for after the fact

anyways truth does make a good point about san fran and harbaugh although i think i can count on one hand the last decade plus how many teams without a franchise qb made that leap by just adding a head coach and even less that were able to sustain it...

I'd love to agree with this post and mostly do. What I think the poster fails to consider is that the GM may not share the same vision as the Coach. For the Dolphins to be successful with this philosophy that Philbin is bringing to Miami, he'll need a GM committed to the same approach. This will require a steller scouting system and a commitment to building through the draft. This also means the abandonment of quick fixes through freeagency. I really don't see Ireland as the man for this job but I hope I'm wrong.
As for Peyton, he's a stellar QB but as I see it the Bronco's have two years to win a SB and than it's over. I'm willing to bet they come up short.

I agree with the OP. The NFL is a coaches league more than any other sport. QB is also very important but a coach makes just as big a difference.

Knoll had Bradshaw
Shula has Griese and Marino
Walsh had Montana
Jimmy Johnson had Aikman
Belichick has Brady
Giants coach has Eli Manning
Lombardi had Bart Starr
Landry had Staubach

List goes on and one. Of course these teams had lots of great players supporting their coach and QBs.
