If we want to win the next 3 games we can't be playing too conservative and make coaching mistakes. On the 4th and 2 before the half with 22 seconds left why are you kicking the ball! Are you kidding me. Our kicker can't seem to kick past the 35 yard line anymore. I was thinking this will be a Auburn moment lol.

The other mistake we made was not calling a TO with 1 minute and about 20 seconds on the 4th and 4. Instead we allow them to try and get the off sides and the time runs all the way down. If we want to beat the Patriots we cannot leave points on the field like that. Overall

The conditions in Miami are probably not going to be as ****ed up as they were in Pittsburgh so the situations would be different.

1. not going for 4th and 2 and kicking an unmakeable FG.
2. should have called a TO before that last play, our D was woefully out of position.

as a coach myself I can tell you that it depends on the type of person you are. im very aggressive. and I live by it and die by it. coaches usually have sheets that they made up during the week telling them what they should do in certain situation throughout the game. like up 1 third qtr go for two, for example. I play to win the game, but I can see why the coaches made or make some of their decisions bc it can bite you in the ass. a win is a win though

Finally the right observations are being made. If you go back and look at our other games, this is a common theme. Clock management and situational football is NOT one of Philbin's strong spots. I completely agree with you on the two bad decisions today. What's even worse is that no kicker has made a FG from that long in that stadium, and to try one in the snow/elements, with a struggling kicker is mind boggling to me. I think its pretty safe to say, Philbin won't be out-coaching anyone anytime soon.

How do you call a timeout there when the clock is running and literally about to tick to zero and they somehow miraculously get the play off with half of their damn players moving for what should have obviously been an illegal shift penalty? If Joe Philbin calls a timeout there nobody ever hears the end of it.

No, I don't agree. Watching it live I was screaming for the TO. The D was obviously not set. There was no downside to calling a TO even if it stopped the clock with a couple of seconds left, as with the D properly set the chance of a TD from there were pretty much zero. It always looked as if there were enough time for an extra snap. As someone else pointed out, they left the Steelers WR at the top of the field completely uncovered and were totally gassed. It was a big mistake not to call TO and get the D set, and it almost cost us.

I agree, I think calling a time out there appears right in hindsight, but the clock was running for both teams and the Steelers had the much harder task of lining up after a negative play and running a play without a play call and having to get some 70-80 yards with it. Wilson, Ellerbee, and then Clemons missed tackles not because of a lack of a timeout, but because they choked. Calling a timeout might have helped in that regard, but it still makes a near impossible task for the opponent easier.

There are a ton of reasons to be encouraged by the way this team has turned it's season around, and when added to the surprising wins at the beginning of the year, as well as the fact that they haven't had 4 bad quarters of football in any game, you have to give Philbin some props. But as a gameday manager he has cost himself several wins both this year and last, and that inability threatens to override any of the good he otherwise does. If your team is good enough to be in close games nearly every week, regardless of opponent, and you blow a couple of those due to coaching when the players were good enough to get the win, that is the difference between playoffs and watching from home. I hope it doesn't end up the same this year for what I'm sure we can all see is a Dolphins squad with the most potential we've had in years, even if the results aren't assured of being better than our usual 7-9.

Kicking a field goal at the end of the half was retarded but to call a timeout at the end of the game with the lead with the clock running? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Another Philbin hater born out of stupidity.

BTW, in my opinion the worst coaching decision of the game was Tomlin going for it on 4th and 10.

The only thing I would have like to seen different is taking a shot at the endzone on last drive.

I agree with you there. Stupid call and they wasted a timeout to talk it over too. Philbin not going for first down with 22 seconds left is a bonehead decision. You go for it, if you get it you call timeout, throw another pass and then kick fg (I think we had another timeout).

Mia's last drive I would not have thrown it either. 3 runs but I would have had tanne roll right and have him try to run it inand if not then get fg.

He made some blunders yesterday & its a disturbing pattern. He is better than Sparano but not nearly as sharp as you would expect a NFL level Coach to be when obvious situations present themselves. Miami is always in need of points...its not like we hold teams to a FG every week so why not call timeout at the end of the half and try and score again? They almost got into FG range anyway but allowed Pitt to run clock while sitting on timeouts.

The result was a woeful FG attempt and Pitt doing their best Auburn imitation catching the way short kick and returning it.
Just not good strategy IMO

Maybe the Fins should "crowd source" these situations and go with what the majority feels is best...Can someone set that up?

Shot down by Beelzebub again...Man I hate that devil

That is exactly what I was saying at the time...
