Whatever happened to the Coffin Corner Punt? I remember guys used to do it all the time. Now it seems as though they want to kick it as high as possible and most of the time it goes into the End Zone for a Touchback. One would think that if you pay a punter big $, they should be able to aim at the 5 yard line and get pretty darn close to it. :idk:

15 yard NET punt...C'Mon Man!

Your thoughts? :ponder:

I wonder that all the time bro. The only reason I could think of not to go for the corners is to try to get a turnover.

I'm with you though, it is a lost art and I'm not exactly sure why teams went away from it.

The punter should always try to get the ball out of bounds especially when trying to pin then deep

it is a lost art. I wonder if guys are too afraid of shanking it - as would often happen - you'd see the ref walk up the sideline forever to where the ball went out of bounds. Just a hypothesis.

It seems to me it started with Scifres from the Chargers back 10 years now. He would never go coffin corner he would do the backspin punt. It seems todays punters are following that style instead of the coffin corner punt.

Fields used to drive me crazy with his 60+ yard punts that always had bug returns just kick it 50 and out of bounds

I thought they had also been practicing them in pre-season...and it sounded like he was pretty good at them; however, it just hasn't translated to the real season...
