Do you guys think that the fins playing the champs on a thursday to kick off the 06 season was just a random draw. I know they picked denver first but I think that they new denver was going to say no and that they know we have something to prove. Your thoughts.

i think it's cool to play them on thursday. it gives us a national televised game. and it also gives us extra time before the next game!!!!!!!!

Is this true, that a team can be approached about a game like this and say no?? Seems a little unfair. Although I seem to remember that when the 2004 schedule was being put together, Wanny requested to the NFL that their two west-coast games (Seattle and San Francisco), be scheduled back-to-back weeks and the team would just spend the week in between practicing at a California facility.

Nothing to this, at all. Strictly coincidence combined with NFL picking teams that present a good TV draw and matchup.

In Saban We Trust!

I think it's great we get a shot at the champs, I think it will give us a glimpse of what Coach has done with the team in the off season.

Dolphins 24 Steelers 17

Go Dolphins

I'm confused. How does a team go about declining the NFL's proposed schedule ?

This is truly a "fishin" thread.

There's no way to know.

Yeah, apparently den found out the league originally scheduled them to open at PIT but they declined (The 1st weekend prime-time gms come out b4 the rest). Before this happened I didn't know teams could do that but remember, opening the season on Thursdays just started a couple of years ago.

i'd like to think that the league "likes" the fish this year. first game against the champs then a turkey game. i dunno, you tell me.

I like the idea that we are going to be playing the first game of the year. It will give us a chance to see how much we improved and if we are ready to take on some of the better teams in the leauge. I think it's going to be a pretty good game.

Then a Christmas' eve game, totally agree!!!!!

I'm not sure that a team can "decline" any games. I remember a few years ago, Wanny requested a few games on the west coast in a row, so that they don't have to fly back in forth, he arranged for practices to be held in San Diego I think. But I don't think you can say no I don't want to play in this game. I think the league is showing us respect by putting us against the Steelers on opening night. I think it was 2 years ago that opening night featured a rematch of the title game between Ind and NewE. Take it as a sign of respect for the up and coming fins.

Denver was afraid they'd get spanked again!!!

Exactly Shanahan pussied out, when Saban and co were asked next they said hell yeah. What does that say about a team's coach? For Shanahan its says that he lacks confidence, and thats not a good message to send to your players. For Saban it says that he has confidence in his team and a set of balls.

But I don't think you can say no I don't want to play in this game

Denver declined, it was supposed to be a rematch of the AFC Championship game, but like I said Shanahan pussied out.
The league gave the Fins a call and Saban said hell yeah.

Oh are you still mad about the fact that you show more interest in other mens sacks than sports? Hey you came outta the closet on your own.. I just pointed it out!
