Auburn would have us believe Gene Chizik was the best the university could do in terms of replacing football coach Tommy Tuberville, who resigned (according to the university) or was fired (according to his mother) after a 10-year run that produced a record of 85-40.

Chizik, who coached at Iowa State for two years and produced a 5-19 record, whose team in 2008 won its first two games and finished on a 10-game losing streak, and whose team didn't win a Big 12 Conference game this season, bubbled to the top of the list.

No wonder the feeling remains that minority head coaching candidates still are getting the shaft.

White coaches were passed on too (Gary Patterson & Brady Hoke were also interviewed), in fact TCU & Ball State had (arguably) better seasons than Buffalo--at least on par. So why do we zero in on the fact that a "white coach" was hired and not a "bad coach"?

Can someone please tell me how you automatically get "OMG!! RACISM!!" from a school that passes up
1) 10-2 TCU Coach Pattreson;
2) 1-loss Ball State Coach Brady Hoke; &
3) 8-5 MAC Champion Bulls Coach Gill
in favor of a previous coach at the school with a horrid record last season???

HOW CAN YOU ALL (OP & the media) CRY RACISM FOR SURE!?

Media: "It's because Gill is married to a white woman"...

Jay Jacobs: "Yeah...so is Gene Chizik"...

Media: "Correct...but Gene Chizik is white"...

JJ: "So is Gary Patterson"...

Media: "Yeah....ok...well....Gene Chizik has never been a head coach in the SEC"..

JJ: "Neither has Turner Gill"...

Media: "Sylvester Croom has....why didn't you interview him"?

JJ: click......

Media: "Hello"? "Hello"?

It's like 115/4 in terms of white coaches to black coaches. It's quite ridiculous. They didn't have to hire Gill. Though the ratio is absurd.

So Auburn gets lynched over the 115/4 number and labeled racist? That's not fair...

115/4 sounds like the number of starting black running backs over white running backs....I am not saying this to show that there is racism in RB selections in NCAAF, but rather to point out that numbers alone are no proof of racist intent.

The numbers are an embarrassment for College football. Right now I think the number is actually 3 coaches. With like 25% of the assistant coaches being black and 13% of coordinators being black. Auburn's at the front right now because they're a big name school.

Prince, Willingham, Croom all deserved to be canned. If the ratio wasn't absurd nobody would be talking. I don't think it's a coincidence either. What happens behind closed doors with boosters is dirty business.

As for the running back thing it doesn't hold merit. All anybody wants is the best person to get any job. Maybe their are about 40 more qualified white coaches to every 1 black coach. I don't believe that but it's possible.
