I know this guy is a head case, but he has first round talent. As a UFA signing there is no big loss

We selected almost all team captains with good character. I doubt this regime takes any flyers on people with backgrounds that are TOO sketchy this year. Granted some people have had a few run ins that we took or signed.

I just think Philbin convienced Hickey Clay is his guy......

No thanks. If you can't "toe the line" at Oregon, where they are very lenient on player misconduct, you can't get it together anywhere.

What makes you think Oregon is lenient on player conduct? Whenever guys get out of line they get punished. Blount was kicked off the team after the first game when he got in a fight. Three basketball players just got kicked out after an investigation where no charges were even filed. You don't know what you're talking about.

Im the first one to say I think hes the most talented TE in this entire draft. Hes a better football player than Ebron. That said, I think its pretty telling that NOBODY has taken a flier on him as a UDFA. Theyre might be even more red flags we dont know...

dont think any1 has shown much interest in him yet

Well my best friends son went to high school with him and know his entire family. Everything is pretty much out there on him and his character. We have nothing to loose and a lot to gain (potentially) by taking him. Especially since we have so much "High Character) players in the locker room now to keep him inline.

I'd take a chance. Make it real clear: one strike and you're done.

This team cannot be all choirboys. We need a few thugs. I say go sign him. If he tweets improperly, we can ban him from the NFL.

If you look at some of the backgrounds of some of our udfa signees you will change your mind. We signed several that either left school or were kicked off team. Damien Williams at Oklahoma, Johnson, a DT at Temple, and McCain, a defensive end from Cal. So character hasn't been as much of an issue for Miami with these signings. I do wonder about the drug charge situation with this guy from Oregon.

Vonteze Burfect has risen more red flags than a day of toreadors in Tijuana. It's worked out pretty well for Cinci. IMO, potentially big gain for very little if any risk, so go for it.
