Colts give Jonathan Taylor permission to be Traded

here's why I don’t think the Taylor trade won’t happen for us.......we have our top player on defense holding out for a bigger deal/extension so imagine us trading for Taylor and having to give him a big contract while Wilkins continues to wait......that'd not go well with Wilkins nor his teammates. Then on top of it, you have 6 RB's that have been working hard all the off season and you're now telling them that 3 of them are off the team and the other 3 won’t get to play much.......trust me, I love Taylor but you have to consider what a move like this could do to a locker room that is so close......on top of that Indy wants a 1st round pick and we have other players that are going to get paid besides Wilkins. Last thing we need is yet another big contract and less picks.
Yup, this is the conundrum we have.

Our running back unit is very good at this point.

I get what you're saying, but that scenario happens on every NFL team every season. Players get cut. It's the business end of the game. Whether we bring in Taylor or not, more than one of our current RB's won't be on the roster when the season starts.

It's pretty well documented that Grier has bent over backward to get his HC the players they wanted. If Flores said he wanted Igbinoghene, and Grier said "okay," and picked Igbinoghene...the coach isn't at all accountable?
No, Grier needs to have veto power over coaches nagging him for players

The colts need players as well as picks that roster is one of the worst in the league. I’ve seen mentions of cedrick Wilson and ogbah. I would offer cedrick Wilson, Jeff Wilson, and a 2. Pass rushers are also very hard to find and I believe ogbahs contract is off the books after this year? We would have the money to give Wilkins the contact he deserves as well as pay Taylor at this point. By retaining ogbah we keep our defensive line strong which is one of the most important units on any football team. Achane is nice but more of a gadget back, who with Taylor in fold could be utilized more as a punt/kick returner where I believe he would be a nightmare for opposing special teams. Taylor would solve the short yardage conversion problem that plagued us last year. At 24 years old he has 3-4 years of prime football in that tank. They don’t make running backs like him every day. He would take this offense to a level we have never seen in my life skill position wise.

He does, but that's not the point.
What’s the point?

Grier is responsible to aquire all players, he will have to be accountable for all players, it’s he who we’ll blame if the player doesn’t work out.

This is how it has to be in the hierarchy to be able to allocate accountability.

I would make that deal in a heartbeat, but make no mistake, it would be the draft pick that Indy values. Teams don't want our spare parts. Players like both Wilsons have very little value if any.

can this please end sooner than the dalvin cook stupidity. if we didn't sign dalvin cook, which took NO draft picks and only a 1 year deal for not a lot of money, NO idea why anyone would want Taylor, who was hurt and unproductive last year and there is no way to exactly know what he is at this point. and we are up against the cap, and it would also be nice to keep our draft picks and use them productively
Difference is Taylor is 24, in his prime. Cook is exiting his prime, maybe another decent year or two left.

Grier will certainly explore and stranger things have happened but it does look like a long shot between trade package necessary and the $$. Now if you can unload Cedric Wilson and another chunky contract, could maybe work. Will see.

While I understand folks worried about our future cap and what players we will be able to keep in coming years I’m just less concerned with maintaining our mediocrity and much more concerned with actually being good and winning in the playoffs which we haven’t done in nearly a quarter century. Also if Tua is as good as most seem to think we should be competitive going forward no matter what, if not we’ll continue to be mediocre regardless of our future cap space until we can find a QB.

22- Taylor 192 attempts 861 yards 4 td 4.5 yards per carry

22- Moestert 181 attempts 891 yards 3 td 4.9 yards per carry

Wilson 4.7 ypc and 3 tds.

Taylor was worse than BOTH our running backs last season.

As much as I would like to see it, I just don't see it happening. If Tua goes down we need that first rounder next year sorry to say.

Also, Grier has been doing stuff out of the blue. Who saw Tyreek, Terron, Ramsey or Chubb coming?

Too much noise with this one for me to jump on board. For a 3rd and Wilson ok what the hell, but more than that with our QB situation the way it is, nah.

We will see but my expectations are low. Better chance at getting Jacobs from Vegas shhh lol
No one on plant earth is giving Indy a 1sr rounder for Taylor.

Because a GM can not be at every practice and analyze film of every player on the roster, AND do his job acquiring and signing players.

He has to rely on the coaching staff as far as which guys fit, and where we need help.

If a coach says to him that they are good at WR but could use a TE, why would the GM acquire a WR? To spite the coach?

No. The GM and coach need to work in conjunction building the team.
