Colts give Jonathan Taylor permission to be Traded

Thought I’d give a Colts fan perspective:

JT is an incredible player when healthy. Easily a top 2 pure runner in the league and top 5 RB overall. His speed and power combination is phenomenal and he’d fit great with the other Miami skill players. He’s ok as a receiver out of the backfield. It’s debated if he’s underutilized in that regard or just doesn’t excel at it. It’s pretty well established he’s below avg in pass pro though. He’s been improving but it’s definitely the weakest part of his game.

With all that said, I’m more than ready to move on from the guy at this point - for the right price. He’s always been seen as a high character guy and a professional, something has definitely changed though. There are several theories and I’ll give you mine in a minute as it would be concerning for Miami fans. Many fans are done with him, but I don’t believe the team is. I think they will move him for the right price of course. And I think Irsay is right to ask for a 1st. I also think teams would be crazy to give that AND give JT the contract he wants, so unfortunately I think he plays for the Colts this year.

Something with JT changed this spring. In April he was saying the right things about being under contract and that things would work out. He then switches agents and flips his entire attitude. He’s been sulking ever since. There are a few theories as to what happened. The one I believe is that JT is still injured and he’s concerned his payday is slipping away. He’s been on PUP since camp. There were reports he was mad at the team for them asking him to do a physical before camp (not an unusual request for an injured player). People at camp have said he was moving gingerly just walking. HE claims he’s still not healthy - of course that could be related to the contract. And he left the team for treatment by outside drs. Rumors have spread it was stem cell treatment on the ankle that by now should be well healed.

I have no insider information, just reading the tea leaves so take it for what’s it’s worth. I think JT doesn’t want to wait because he’s worried he’s not healthy and the pay day may never come. Nationally the talk has been that the Colts don’t want to pay him. I don’t believe that, Colts have been holding space to pay him and Pittman. Pittman is in the exact same boat (minus injury concerns) - he is playing the last year of his contract. Colts had a bad year, have a new coach and want to see how everything fits before signing big checks. For Irsay’s faults he never has an issue paying players, especially his own.

There are other possible explanations for the change in Taylor as well. Some believe he’s taken the leadership role for RBs and wants to set the market - that that is what the RB call was all about. Still not what I want to deal with though. Ultimately I hope a deal works out for everyone and JT doesn’t have a long term injury. Regardless, I just no longer want the Colts to sign him long term.

You have obviously been watching a different Wilkins than I have been watching. He was the leading tackler for all DT’s in the entire league last year and he is a player you can count on to give 100% whenever he is on the field.

If you truly think he isn’t a game changing player for the Dolphins. You must have missed last nights game. Because without Wilkins and Sieler on the DL, the Jaguars offense ran up the middle like they were playing against a high school team.
 
at this point I'd be extremely surprised if we trade for Taylor......the money just doesn’t add up, not to mention it'd cost at least a 2nd round pick....after the Seiler deal plus all the other guys we have coming up for free agency it just doesn’t make sense to take on yet another big contract.

Actually less than PA. My Dad lives in a river border town and drives over the bridge to NJ because the gas is so much cheaper and they pump it for you. It's always been that way since I was a youngin'...

I think his injury has likely caused him to realize that life as a RB in the NFL is very limited. He also sees how little the top RB’s are being paid in relationship to some other high profile positions in the NFL.

I think he understands that he needs to get as much money as he can with his next contract. Because once he gets into his late 20’s, if he is still in the league, he will likely be playing for a lot less money.

‘If the Colts change their mind and decide to pay him the money he wants, I think everyone in Indy, including Taylor will be happy with him remaining with the Colts. I just don’t know if the Colts want to pay him the money he wants.

Is that not what "all in" means? Or does it mean "all in", but only if the moves make financial sense? And who determines what makes financial sense?

You say we need to win NOW. Does cost, or thoughts of the future cap circumstances enter that equation or not?

Ppl use terms like "all in" and "win now" (this year), but what they really mean is they want a certain player.

Understandable, and I'm sure many people to fall into that category.

What makes financial sense? That's for Grier and his team to decide. We can all offer opinions and speculate by looking at the numbers we can view ourselves. Obviously we can't give Taylor some absurd figure north of $20 million. What about $15 million though? If you're trading Ogbah, you free up $15 million this year and next. Trading C. Wilson would free up 7 million this and next year.

Yes, I do believe we need to win NOW. For me, it has nothing to do with wanting a certain player, it has to do with me being sick of seeing more rebuilds than playoff wins in my life. As far as cap or future cap circumstances, you absolutely have to factor that to a certain degree, but it's not rocket science and those people in the front office get paid a lot of money to figure the cap out.

Elite players rarely become available during their prime. If you can add one of them during your now open championship window, and afford to keep the roster mostly intact for 2 years, you do it without hesitation IMO.

I definitely want Jonathan Taylor on this team, just as I'd want any other elite 24 year old player, regardless of position.

Super Bowl or bust baby.

You're blanketing a whole group of posters to think that way.

It also acknowledges you're not paying attention to what the individual poster has stated or said.

To me, that phrase may mean something diferrent like it may you.

But when a poster clearly states when a price is too high, they very clearly do not fall on to your interpretation of all in.

We can't force people to see things the way we believe or see it.

People do it here all the time. When something is clearly spelled out in a post, they infer something into it.
 
I hope Irsay moves the deadline to midnight tonight. Get this over with. Move on and re-sign Wilkins instead. Or at least tell moron Irsay that’s what we’re doing.
