Because he's having groin surgery, he won't play again this season. But given how poorly Xavien Howard has adapted to a starting role and how much Cordrea Tankersley still has to learn, I'd be fine with offering Vontae a back-loaded 2-year deal in free agency -- a little guaranteed money plus substantial incentives in year 1, big base salary with mutual option for year 2. If he returns to Pro Bowl level, pay him like a Pro Bowler -- but prove it.
