A few days ago I created this thread stating my opinion that a Steelers win over the Colts would virtually ensure them of a playoff berth due to the weakness of their remaining schedule. That, combined with the dominating performances today of every other AFC playoff contender is going to make it extremely difficult for the Dolphins to earn a playoff berth with a 10-6 record. Even assuming a Dolphins win over the Chargers next week, the tiebreaker loss against KC combined with their inability to control their destiny against the Steelers adds to the Dolphins very thin margin for error.

I know its early and the Dolphins first and foremost need to focus on improvement, but the big picture is that sweeping the Patriots and winning the division may be necessary to make the playoffs. But given the way the Patriots are now playing, they may not lose more than a game or two during their upcoming difficult stretch of games.

It's most likely going to take 11 wins to secure a wildcard and 12 wins including a win at New England to win the division.

Stop worrying and just let the season play out. We are not even half way through yet! The OP has way too much time on his hands to analyze all of these scenarios. 11 of the 16 AFC teams have winning records. In the coming weeks, the contenders will separate themselves from the pretenders.

No, my point was that the Steelers should be taken seriously despite earlier bad losses to the Bucs and Browns. Their remaining cupcake schedule now only leaves one wildcard spot available. And KC has an advantage over the Dolphins that would require the Dolphins to have more wins than them to make the playoffs.

I'm sorry if you found my big picture objective assessment of the Dolphins playoff chances offensive. It's simply my opinion

I see nothing wrong discussing football and playoff scenarios on a football forum and I don't see how creating these threads will affect the team in real life. However I do think it's too early to ,make a serious claims. Teams in our division will get upsets and lose games they should've won and with still more than half the season to play, you need to count the unpredictable variable on injuries in the future. Example: Injury prone players like Gronk are still healthy but could go down at any time and that would be huge.

As I said before win out. 13-3. Problem solved.

Lets string some wins together vs. the good teams we play coming up before we concern ourselves with such matters, shall we.

Steelers rarely miss playoffs right? History is on their side ...Ive seen calls that make me swear the NFL is on their side.
On the other hand Dolphins rarely make playoffs ...History says even during "good" seasons they are always just outside looking in.

What do you take from all that? Why worry? This team is who we think they are until they change and I believe this year has already shown us the complete makeover is not ready yet. Maybe when they put 2 half's together they will be ready to run with the big dogs but for now they are still on the porch.

its simple.

miamis next 5 games.

vs san diego
at detroit
vs buff
at den
at jets

this 5 game stretch will tell us a lot about our team.

our ''easiest'' game on in that stretch is the jets, and as awful as the jets r, it is a rivalry game, and we r on the road, they always play us tough regardless of record.

must come out of that stretch 3-2 at worst. anything worse than that, this team is a fraud.

beat san diego, buff and at the jets, and maybe we can steal the lions game. denver as of now is looking nearly impossible.

The Colts pissed me off. They can beat up on their crappy division rivals, great! I thought they were a team that could knock off NE, I bet NE mops the floor with them. They will win their ****ty division and everybody will continue to go gaga for Andrew luck.

Really? Again?

They are half game behind Cincy. With 8 games to go. What if they actually win the division? And Cincy loses a couple extra games? And then Baltimore will be our contender. Maybe not. Who knows. Who cares at this point?

And we still haven't played half the season yet.

Bingo.

If we go 3-2 over this stretch, we will be 7-5 and have a chance. We do finish with the Vikings and Jests. 7-5 gives us a shot to make the playoffs, and also win the division should we beat the Bills and Jests over this 5 game stretch. If we do that, it will come down to whether or not we can beat the Pats on the road.

7-5 also gives us an outside shot at a 9-7 WC birth should we not beat NE. But, beating the Chargers will be huge in that.

We are not beating Denver. So that means going 3-1 in those other 4 games. Winning the 2 divisional games and beating the Chargers would be optimal.

Basically if we can beat the Chargers and Bills, we can begin to discuss these scenarios. If we lose next week, we MUST beat Detroit. At 4-5 with road games vs. Denver and NE, you can pretty much close the books.

A lot can still happen. We will see. My guess is still 7 or 8 wins. I do not see us beating Detroit and most certainly not Denver. I will not be shocked if we lose to Buffalo or San Diego at home either. Those games are total toss ups.

I don't trust Detroit. I have a feeling they are a fraud. Caldwell is a bottom tier coach and Stafford isn't the most reliable in big spots. They have the feel of a team that came out to a hot start and collapses down the stretch. Hope it starts with the Dolphins. (They are on a bye next week)

if we did enter the final quarter of the season 7-5, no reason why we shouldnt go 10-6, which would give us a good chance at a wildcard.

vs balt, at ne, vs min, vs nyj, good teams win there home games in december, if we won those games but lose at foxboro, we would still prob make the playoffs.

if we entered that final quarter at 6-6, we r most likely done, because i do not see a 9-7 team getting into the wildcard this year, but then again, things can change.
