Columbo/carey- they suck?

that may be true, i didnt really watch columbo closely enough. Did the sack stop us? I believe we stopped ourselves at the GL. twice.

You see, a guy can have a pretty good game but everyone focuses on one or two plays. That to me is the real problem. You win some you lose some. and as someone pointed out. Long also whiffed. It happens.

I just find it interesting that the columbo/carey talk faded and the problem became something else.

That's why I said Colombo wasn't bad.... overall he was about a C+. I just saw him on that very last drive though get beat badly on more than one occasion...That could of been because the game was essentially over with though.

You know what I think? I think BB has his defense set up to put a certain pass rush on from outside even in a hurry up. Its like clockwork. he has his troups trained to react to situations and recognize a call and make it happen at a moments notice. He does to you what he knows you cant do to brady. in other words, we will win with hurry up offense all game and keep the pass rush at bay all game but we will rush their passer on a moments notice. He plays both sides of the track very well in preperation.

but I didnt see a slow stiff columbo. maybe im blind.

Columbo is very average just like Carey was at tackle.
Carey is better than what we had at right guard (Jerry , Mc Kush , etc )
So actual we're better on that side than before.
But not by much.

You ll hear more about it this week after Williams makes Colombo his *****. Fasano can forget about catching any passes this week.

u sure about that? wanna pick the play out? Not saying he didnt screw up I just dont think you know for sure. he certainly wasnt garbage. i can tell you that.
You mind going through the plays and telling us where he played well? You started the thread (and several others that are clearly meant to do nothing more than rile up anybody that's critical of this regime, aka baiting), so the onus is on you.

Colombo is garbage. Carey? meh, he's seen better days, but he's not as bad as Colombo.

I wish this were true but unfortunately Colombo is so far from average its not even debatable.

i dont understand how we are better by moving a guy that was a pretty average tackle last year and pretty good the previous year for a guy that was one of the worst tackles in the entire nfl last year and that continued in the preseason as well as game one, and playing the guy out of his natural position his entire career. carey may end up ok inside but he has seen better days. it may be the right move. but replacing him with columbo most certainly was not, and it doesnt give us a lot of mobility from our guards

The most frustrating thing is there were options out there too. It's like the most common sense things are over looked by these guys. What the hell were they looking at on tape from Colombo last year? They're either dumber than I give them credit for or they just went by the Colombo they knew five yrs ago, which still makes them dumb.

Might as well add some video for reference.

It's the video Phins Rock posted yesterday so thank him and yes, the audio is messed up.

just watching that quickly it looks like columbo blew a couple assignments and allowed some pressure, but outside of the blown assignments didnt get blown up as long as he got his hands on guys. he wasnt going up against mario williams and henne was getting the ball out quickly. so well see. he looked bad in preseason. im gonna wait to pass judgement on the guy. he may have been the 5th worst tackle, but frankly from this and not studying each individual play that doesnt seem like it would have been the case. he did miss 2 assignments from what i saw tho and mayo got a pretty good hit on henne on one of them.

its possible from what i saw he might not be a lost cause. hes getting off the ball, and hes getting his hands on guys. lets see what happens against the texans

If we were allowed to legally hold like the entire Patriots offensvie line does. we would have no problem. Watch Solder and Waters all night long. Hands full of Jersey and only what, one flag thrown. This is not just Sunday, its game after game after game for the Patriots. Henne is doing something he failed to do last year, stepping up nicely int he pocket.

This is a pretty decent offense once we get someone that can actually pound the football decently. Does not have to be Adrian Peterson, just someone halfway decent who is not on the wrong side of retirement age like the mutts we had up until this season.

no way they are gonna throw flags on a line protecting one of the nfls best brands. just not a chance. too bad for that damn tuck call. a dynasty was born on that call. unfortunately at this point, its just something we have to overcome. something miami has to earn. gotta beat the pats at home to get it started. gotta have some success ourselves and well get those calls eventually. but its starts with beating new england. that has to be the focus. but its not for this front office and coaching staff, and i have no idea why

history in every sport shows us this. the bulls had to overcome the pistons who had to overcome the celtics who had to overcome the sixers. that was the focus. the cowboys had to overcome the 49ers. then when they did, the 49ers bring in deion and other veteran defenders then deion goes to cowboys. edmonton oilers and new york islanders...then colorado and the wings.....boston and new york in baseball.....its an arms race with the opponent thats blocking the path.

in this case its been the pats. but we made no attempt to specifically match up with them for this game or this season and it makes no sense.

we have to beat the best to be the best. until that becomes our focus we never will. and until we do we wont get those calls. we have to be better than them and we arent. rex has it right. he called out all the teams in the division basically. said hey we beat these guys - who else is gonna step up?

not us. we dont even know we have to

I wish this site had more posters like you... I'm fed up with the bashing/negativity around here....

I can give you a key play. 3-2 on the fourth drive. The play is a sweep to Bush. Columbo leaves his feet for no reason, and he barely touches the strong side linebacker. Horrible block. If he makes that block, it is likely we get the 1st down. The other problem with that play is that Fasano got driven into the backfield. This slowed down Pouncey's who failed to reach his block.
