By now everyone knows we cut another KR/PR Brightful. Granted in this case it was deserved bc of the dropped punts/fumbles.

Then I started to notice how many returners we have tried and then brought in specialists just for this job. None have much success and bang Wanny cuts them.

Most of the specialists we brought in were well regarded and even some of the players we have tried from our own team should do ok. I think Wanny should take the friggin hint and realize it is not the return man that is the problem. Ever since he fired Westoff our ST have been HORRIBLE. He brought in another 'friend' and ruined another part of our team.

Maybe they just need to practice it more to get blocking down!? Heck if you go by amount of time on the field, I wonder if our punt team is out there more than our Offense!

well when you sign a guy to do ONE single thing and he cant do it, you have no use for him. with our offense struggling, we CANT turn the ball over on special teams... Brightful was also released by the Ravens I believe... so its not like this guy was proven, he was a risk and we took a chance on him. he had his chance, now we are trying something else. end of story.

He was cut by the Ravens for the same reasons we just did.....

Whihc begs the question.. Why did we sign him in the first place?

Bringing in a "friend" as you put it has nothing to do with the performance of the return guy. So what you are saying is, if Westoff was here, Brightful would not have fumbled at all?

If a return man puts the ball on the ground (especially 3 times in 1 game), he's gotta get the boot. Simple as that. I've been waiting since 89' to see a kickoff return for a TD. Hopefully our new man can catch and hold onto the ball.

Not just Brightful, because he fumbled, but we have never found a KR guy that stays. The poster was saying that's because we suck on STs and nee to fire the coach. We can't block, can't have a good return without a hold. Coverage has been spot on, but returns have always sucked. I was discussing with my father during Sunday's game, watching Brightful fumble but still have decent returns, that in my fin history as a fan, I've never seen a return for a TD. That's sad. Granted there may have been 1 or 2 thru the years that I may have missed, but none in recent memories.

Brightful was known as "Frightful" up in Baltimore before he was cut.... we picked up a known fumbler PR and signed him. He did the same things down here. He actually fumbled FIVE times in the game, but recovered two himself - they didn't get logged in the game stats.

The best PR we have had in recent years was Ogden. He almost never fumbled, and always got us around ten yards. Heck, thats better than anyone of recent memory...

Sad but true.

I was thinking the same when we first got him....

Does anyone have any stats on the new guy? What's his 40 time? etc etc

Dante Hall wasn't an overnight success, he was worked with, and Dick Vermiel gave him time, gave him confidence, and look where they are now. We have had 6 returners (Punt and Kick) in 2 years, Baker, Newson, Rogers, Simmons, Buckley, Marion. We sign players every year, we finally find a game breaker, and we cut him in Russell.

well

Well I think becouse when he could catch the bowl he could do fine, when he fumbole the bowl (after th hit) he was runing well, and also in the last punt, he gave us the chance for the FG, but I if can catch the bowl he will be very dangerous for the team....

Also I agree, the principal problem on the ST is the coach he sucks... but we can´t have a player that could drop the bowl every game...

He was a hell of a lot more explosive than sam simmons on punt returns, kicks too. If he could hold onto the ball the kid would be a playmaker. The new guy looks like he can be special too, I think we may have our returner for the rest of the year.
