Active Roster
For my 2000th post here at the phenomenal Finheaven, I thought I would generate one of those raw raw threads to get every one just that more amped for the season. So I'm going to play the role of beat writter here for a minute. Warning, multiple doses of excitement may come with the obsorbtion of this thread!
Why is this Dolphins team differnt than those of years past? Why should we all be chomping at the bit for the 2006 season to finally kick off? I have five good reasons for you to be thrilled for this 2006 Dolphins' team.
#1 I only have 2 words for you. Daunte Culpepper! That is almost enough by itself to get you pretty excited about the upcomming campaign. 6 years, 6 quarterbacks, no Super Bowl apperances. Heck, if not for an incredible defense and timly running, we wouldn't have seen the playoffs. Sure good ol' Jay Fiedler led us to a division title and a playoff birth, but did you ever honestly feel comfortable with him slinging it back there? We've gone through a Ray, A.J, Gus, Sage, Griese and loveable Jay. Enter Daunte Culpepper. We now have a guy who has been to 3 pro-bowls, the highest completion percentage of all time and the 4th best QB rating of all time. That includes a single season with the 2nd best QB rating in a single season of all time. That 2004 season was gretaly over shawdowed by a record breaking year by Peyton Manning. Had Peyton not errupted, everyone would be talking about Daunte's 39 TDs, 110 rating and 4000+ yard season. As Daunte said in a recent interview, you can look forward to a show when the Dolphins put the ball in the air this year.
#2 Ronnie Brown just might be the NFL's next big thing. He has down nothing but condition and bulk up this off-season. There are questions about him being able to shoulder a full load, but even Brown himself said there is no question in his mind he can do it. Ronnie has show great ablities catching the football and picking blitzes on passing downs. Not to mention his 4.4 YPC when they handed it to him. This team has no need to worry at the running back position. Expect big things from RB this year.
#3 Chris Chambers is primed to show his Randy Moss abilities. The addition of Culpepper immediatley makes any WR a better player. Chambers no longer has to break stride in his trek down the sideline on long balls. Year after year he has dealt with weak armed QBs who have yielded Chambers big play ability by constantly under throwing the football. Chambers broke out in 2005 with a sub-par QB with a fairly good throwing arm. Imagine what Chris can do with a guy who has arguably the best arm in football and great mobility to buy Chambers more time to run. It really is scary, for the opponents that is.
#4 Hudson Houck's second year. In his first year as OL coach, Hudson performed nothing short of a miracle. He improved what was possibly the worst offensive line in the league from 2004, to a team who allowed just over 20 sacks and allowed 4.4 YPC from it's runners. The addition of L.J Shelton should make it even better and another year doesn't hurt either.
#5 Will this defense ever show it's age? Year in and year out I hear people talking about our aging defense. Well the truth is, it has never really slowed. Saban added Capers to an already briliant defensive coaching staff headed by Saban. Nick also remade the secondary bringing in a unit to try and replace one of the worst pass defenses from a year ago. Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Keith Traylor, Vonnie Holiday and Kevin Carter may be old, but they still have high powerd motors that have never quit. Youngster Channing Crowder also looks great in one of the leagues top front 7's in my opinion.
Well there ya go, my 5 reasons to get excited for the upcomming season. I know there are plenty of other reasons but these are my main areas of focus. Tell me what you guys think. Thank you.
