Commentary: A Brownout?

Alot of good points and although I would like Brown, we do not have the need to give up a pick worthy of aquiring him. What really bothers me is the people that think Brown is not an upgrade over sammy Morris. That borders on needing some pschological help lol.

I dont want Brown.

But he would be willing to play without an extension so he can cash in next year according to his agent.

Id part with a 7th for him....or just wait for the waiver wire.

The Titans will want way to much for this guy and hes in his last year of his contract. No thanks i would rather roll with Sammy Morris.

I don't have anything against bringing C.B. to town, but with the draft picks we gave up in this year's draft, I cannot see Nick wanting to head into next year's draft without a full complement of picks again.

Unless Tenn. wants some of the players we would cut anyways and would trade for him, I cannot see Nick trading picks again.

The other way to look at it is that Nick has traded picks to meet needs in the past, so he's very likely to do it again.

Tenn, of course, would be dumb to take any of our cast-offs in return for C.Brown. Who could we honestly offer that wouldn;t make our roster, but would still be good enough to warrant them accepting the trade? No one I can think of.

Just goes to show, we can discuss this all we want, but in the end no one knows anything.

Brownout

Yeah, there must be a better name than Brownout.

Brown-nosers? Um. Nope.

There has to be something better.

I think Brown is unquestionably a better RB than Morris. He's got some skill. Is he a better special teamer and utility player?? No way.

But as a #2, he's an upgrade. And I think that's the best place for him, since he can't stay healthy as a fulltime starter.....which I think is largely the result of him being 6-3.

I'd take R. Brown/C. Brown/Sammy Morris anyday.

And Travis Minor if we decided to carry 4 RBs.

Good points. I don't want Brown because he's way too expensive. Those midlevel picks are where we've been able to find quality future starters at D for years (Crowder, Daniels, ZT, JT, etc). He's better than Morris but not good enough to warrant sending anything more than a 6th or 7th rounder.

As always, thanks for the comments, everyone! Since this trade rumor will probably die soon, I wanted to strike while the iron is hot. Not much chance for me to report first-hand on training camp, I'm afraid.

The Big Brown Trucks? They could make a UPS marketing campaign out of it! Oh wait, DHL is a main sponsor at Dolphin Stadium. Never mind.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why move from the #1 back on one team to the #2 on another if you want to cash in? I mean, it's not like the Phins OL is THAT great. Why not demand a trade to Denver if that's the gameplan? God knows, Brown's got to be better than Ron Dayne. No, I'm not buying the "I'll do it without an extension" thing. If he's traded, he'll want an extension, or a place where he's #1. And if he's asked for a trade to Miami, he's obviously ruling out the chance to be #1.

I think Nick Saban thinks like you do, Regan. Those mid-rounds are where you can find quality starters at non-glamour positions, or at least projects who can be turned into something with good coaching (i.e. Manny Wright, Anthony Alabi, Joe Toledo). And most importantly, those guys come CHEAP, at least for awhile. If you're spending a massive chunk of your cap on Culpepper, Chambers, Thomas, Taylor and Ronnie Brown, you can't afford million dollar backups all over the place.

Haha, I wish I were Nick Saban. Except if I were Saban, I might've taken that offer to dine with the prez. Can't be bad to get to know the most powerful man in Washington. Worked for Halliburton. I'd like for a few Pats, Jets, and Bills players to spend some quality time at Gitmo during the season

In fact, not only can you find quality starters with those mid-rounds, but with the right scouting, you might even find a star player like Thomas, Taylor, McMike, et all. We've had tremendous success in finding LB's at those spots (Zach, Crowder, Pope, even Bua and Greenwood).

Tony Bua and Morlon Greenwood are not good examples of quality starting linebackers.

i understand why people would not want brown (chris), but trust me he is not going to start or take carries away from ronnie. he is our guy, he is sabans guy. and you will want him on our team just in case....
