Commentary: Do Dolphin Fans Really Show Up?

A very good read well worth the time to read it, also interesting statistics he digs up.

Good read. Maybe I'm selfish, but I don't pay attention to the crowd a whole lot during the game unless the crowd is seated and letting the team die out on the field. But that rarely happens. So I stand whenever I feel like the team needs support. I put myself out there to be let down or lifted up by the players on the field. Either way, I don't quit and I don't let handicapped or lazy people stop me from cheering.

I have been to 4 games in the last 3 years. The only game where the crowd failed was the Monday Night Football game against the Eagles in 2003. I couldn't even tell I was in Dolphin Stadium. We might as well had been in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, Duper and Clayton were supposed to be honored that night by the Dolphins, but were instead disrespected by the drunk Eagle fans.

Without writing too much, all you have to do is one simple thing.

SUPPORT THE DOLPHINS AT THE GAMES TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES.

That's it. GO FINS!!! :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

Darn good read, I can't afford to go to the games but that doesn't mean I'm less of a fan. I live & die by their wins/losses, and bleed aqua & orange. In fact I actually prefer to watch the games on TV over being at the stadium. But I'm just as whacked out a homer on the Phins as anyone else.

Plus another thing is, orange seats are much easier to see then other colors, that's why is stands out more.

ESPN actually lists all NFL teams in order of average attendance per game. And the Dolphins are always in the top 10.

This was a great read.

and oh yeah, even if I lived in Miami and was a millionare, I still wouldn't go to the games. I am much more comfortable watching the games at home...where you don't miss anything and don't have other annoying things to deal with.

This criticism has been voiced not only for the dolphins but all the teams down here. whether or not it is valid criticism for the Dolphins, I think the article addresses this. I've never been able to understand this phenomenan for the Marlins and the Hurricanes.

Some of the early stats seem skewed. Wasn't 1987 the strike year? If so I'd be willing to bet the stadium was half empty for the games the replacements played. That drives the 1987 figure down. Also, did capacity change when the Marlins came into the fold? One of you mentioned the espn attendance figures
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/attendance?year=2005

If you look at the list by % of capacity filled, the Fins are consistently in the bottom third of the league for the years listed (or close to it). However for total attendance they are top ten to top five territoy. So obviously the Dolphins have one of the larger stadiums in the league. If you put a stadium that holds 73K+ in say buffalo, their stats would look horrible.

Bottom line, you can make stats say whatever you want. If you're a fan and you enjoy the team, go to the game stay at home whatever. who cares what some clown in new england says about you on a message board

Can't wait for tomorrow!

I would have to get season tickets every year if I wasn't stuck in hell (Marion N.C.). Their is nothing like being with fellow fans and trying to be recognized as true fans by losing your voice while your D's on the feild and after a TD when 80-90,000 comrades all stand to yell at once. I love my occasional visit to the home state team who I am greatful to be in the NFC but as good as it feels their it's not the same as being able to do it for the team that your heart pounds for. Shame on people down their that is in a situation to go and don't.

I'm actully kind of the same way. It doesn't matter to me weather I'm at the stadium, or watching on my TV in my living room. It's nice to have the comfort of your home and be able to sit any where or way you want. But there is also nothing like being at the park and watching the game live. I've been to 2 Dolphin games. One in Miami, and one up here in Washington against the Seahawks.
