COMMENTARY: Dolphins will pay for Greener pastures

Very good article. I don't know that I agree with it all but still very good.

My only question is why keeping Culpepper would keep a young rookie from learning and being ready to take the reigns in a year or two? If Culpepper does come back but is not his old self than, it seemst that would be the time to give things over to the rookie. We are also not sure that Green will be his old self either. It would seem to me they still don't need to trade Culpepper before the draft, or even right after for that matter. Considering the draft is now 2 days away if they plan on getting Green and getting rid of Culpepper, they better get buisy. I don't disagree on the compensation for Green though and I wouldn't really have a problem with it.

My thought here is Green would be brought in as a clear transitional quarterback, whereas Culpepper would be attempting to resurrect a continued career. That would lead to Culpepper having a longer leash, IMO.

an excellently well thought out post, thanks for the commentary.

I can see us paying a little bit more for green to come earlier, it would allow more mini camp time for our new starter, and allow green to get more comfortable with the reciever's timing. a sixth for a one or two year rental isn't a bad thing.

plus, we may make out by trading culpepper for a higher pick?

You may be right but the way I see it is Miami can make their decission on who the starting QB is when ever they want to. If they keep Culpepper and his resurrection isn't progressing at the rate they want it to (in other words he is not producing like they would like to see) than they can make the switch to the younger guys whenever they like. If on the other hand Culpeppers resurrection goes the way he sees it going, than they are in a situation not much different than SanDiego was with Brees and Rivers, not a bad situation to be in IMO. Then Culpeppers value is a lot higher if we decide to go with the young guy.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against getting Green. I personaly would love it if we could keep both of them, at least through training camp, the more options the better, and the less risk.

If we can get Green for a low pick and somehow get good value out of Culpepper though, I woul be ok with that. I like Culpepper and hope he makes his comeback, and if he is going to do so, I would much rather it be with Miami.
But back to the article, I agree, it was well written and very well thought out. I gave it 5 stars as well.

Two draft picks with the conditional all the way to a second???

Its one thing to take a chance on a 36 year old QB but to pay so much to do it??? Even Green's agent threated Peterson to make a trade before the draft or get nothing after.

Would you pay a 6th and a 2nd for a Super Bowl appearance? Because if Green put up a Pro Bowl season in 2008, that's where the Dolphins could legitimately end up.

The Chiefs will most likely cut Green after the draft. Save the picks and wait a few days.

Not very likely he will put up a pro bowl season at 38 and the chiefs have not sniffed a super bowl with him at his best.

At his best, he didn't have the calibre of defense he would have behind him here.

But that is a question I want answered by t he fans. I think I'll add it as a poll.

no reason to trade for Green. He will be ours eventually.....giving up anything will be a disappointment, because I don't see any way we get anything more for Culpepper than we would get for Green. So wait for Green, then release Culpepper (if necessary....which if we don't draft a passer....I'm not so sure it is).
