Commentary: Saluting the CBA MVPs

Good job Doc, the Balrog comment gave me a good visual...

Do you think he'll still be here when this cames up in six years?

I highly doubt Tags sticks around that long. Scuttlebutt is that he'll retire in the next two years. And what a way to go out.

Looking at him during the agreement announcement, I couldn't see how he would survive another renegotiation. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how he stayed upright at the podium.

That said, most CBA renewals since '94 have been nowhere near this contentious. But I still think Tags leaves on a high note.

Great Article! As usual. Loved the Darth Vadar reference too..

Tags is a man at the end of his tenure as commish and this put a big time bullet in his gun. The Next commish is going to have to be someone as commited and dedicated to the SPORT as is Tags. I can see Rich McKay in that role!

That would actually be a good column on its own. Rich McKay is an interesting prospect. His bio is here.

Those looking for trends should note that Tags was an NFL lawyer prior to getting the commissioner job. By that logic, you'd have to consider Gregg Levy a candidate. Read about him here.

Good article, but I thought Jones was opposed to the outcome. He seemed pissed in interviews about the way things played out...

Not pissed. Resigned.

"We couldn't walk out of this building and not have a deal," said Jones, who helped hammer out the final compromise. "I expected to come out of this without having my Christmas list intact and I met my expectation."

Everyone pleased

He not only voted for the accord, he helped win votes. Jones and Snyder both proved they were capable of recongizing the greater good.
