Commentary: Upgrading at QB Won’t be as Easy as You Think

I didn't read the article, but it's always hard to replace a legend. Denver went thru it, Dallas is going thru it, Green Bay will soon. Sure Denver has Plummer and Dallas has Bledsoe, but how many playoff games have they won for their team? QB is the hardest position and finding the right guy is hard. The Dolphins will someday find their guy, and people will try to say "he's no Marino", well "duh". The Dolphins may never find another Marino and Dallas may never find another Aikman, but there are good QB's out there.

the last "legend" QB that was successfully replaced right away was joe montana in SF when steve young stepped in, imo

I thought the article was informative and well written. I hope Mueller fufills our expectation and finds someone above average.

I had no idea Gus' stats from the second half were so solid.

I was thinking that, but didn't really feel like writing it in.....:)

Anybody who considers Gus Frerotte as an equivalent to Jon Kitna so fundamentally misunderstands the quarterback position that it's hard to take anything else seriously. It's closer between Collins and Kitna, but I would still take Kitna every day of the week and twice on Sundays over Kerry. In fact, I think it is fairest to argue that Collins is a superior version of Frerotte who is probably roughly equivalent to Kitna except that Collins is less accurate but throws slightly longer passes with slightly more success in terms of TD to INT ratio.

I agree with your article drafting a qb in the #2#3 or even #4 rds makes sense and keep frerotte. heres a name for all of you gradowski Qb fromm toledo????

Curiously not in your article!!!!:dolphins:

I hope our next QB doesn't feel the pressure of stepping in Marino's footsteps. I'm pretty sure Dan Marino didn't think about being the next Bob Griese. Whoever we get should come in and think about being the first 'whoever we get'.

I would take joey harrington before john kitna geeze kitna stinks the house up !!! lets quit talking about somebody who aint comin to miami anyway?
Kitna stunk in seattle ,he stinks in cinnci, and would definately stink to high heaven in linehans offense Geeze:sidelol: :sidelol:

Very, very well written article.

However, what about guys like Aaron Rogers? The guys who are predicted to be high picks (in his case, the first overall pick) but slip?

I have a feeling (maybe it's just hope) that Cutler will be available at 16. This draft is so deep and talented at key positions, that some of those teams in front of us may take other guys.

Like Arizona for instance. They need a QB and a RB. What if they go for a Lawrence Maroney or a D'Angelo Williams? That could very well cause Cutler to fall to 16.

Kitna stunk in none of those places, and there is a good reason why he has as many 3000 yard seasons as every QB in the post-Marino era have had in their entire careers combined (4). Yep, that's right. Let's look at it.

Kitna -- 4

Frerotte -- 1
Feeley -- 0
Lemon -- 0
Rosenfels -- 0
Griese -- 2
Fiedler -- 1
Lucas -- 0
Huard -- 0

Well, Dan was Dan, and he didn't have to step right in after Griese. He had the comfort of knowing he was following Woodley, and also knowing he had a great right hand man in Strock.
