Commentary: Week 10 Gambling Corner

Iowa and Ohio State will blow out Wisconsin and Northwestern respectively. These are trap games set up by Vegas to get you to take Wisconsin and Northwestern. I like the Colorado pick/ no opinion on Pitt. I like the Dolphins but any play where you're banking on Frerotte is risky and should be a small play. The Texans game is probably right but I lean towards the Colts covering, just a hunch. The Giants is the biggest mismatch on paper but one should proceed with caution. Something tells me the Vikes might be better offensively without Culpepper in there. I like the Panthers but its a very high line, proceed with caution

You think that a 9 line against the Jets, in Carolina, is high? The Jets can not get out of their own way. Look how well Carolina threw the ball on us, and our secondary (while questionable at times) is better than the Jets current state of defense.
I feel the Giants will cover the 9.5 over the Vikings. Sure, the Vikings might be better without Culpepper, but the Giants are starting to click and Eli is catching a groove. Tiki Barber is running strong for NY. Also, remember, Eli does not lose away from the Meadowlands. I take Big Blue on this one.
I am staying away from the Dolphins game this week. As a fan, I think we can win. But as a realist, i dont think we have a chance with Gus as our QB (on a side note, i dont think we would win with Sage either). New England will not want to lose 2 straight and will come on strong. The Dolphins will not be able to stop a BB team on a mission. However, I want a win. So my realist brain wins out and I will keep this game on the shelf and not touch it.
I will be taking the Colts this week, even with the insane line. Indy is too powerful right now on offense against a lowly Houston team. Final score, Indy 45, Houton 3.

As for college, I dont care how bad UConn is. Pitt will not cover the spread, IMO. Wanndstedt will ruin it. Look at the beginning of the season. He would be so close to a win, and in usual Wannstedt teams fashion, they would miss a FG or an INT would ruin it. Watch Uconn come out strong. Pitt should win, but I would not put $$ on anything more than a 7 line on Pitt right now.
Ohio State is giving 18.5 IN northwestern? Are you kidding me? NW has a chance to win this game, not to mention cover that insane margin. OSU has a strong defense, but I see NW throwing some points on the board here.
I def. agree with your logic on the Wisconsin game. While Wisconsin looked week against Penn State, I dont see it happening 2 weeks in a row, and def. not at home, in Alvarez's last home game. Take the Badgers here.
No opinion on the Colorado game.

Iowa will blowout Wisconsin? In Madison? In Barry Alvarez's last home game? After the brutal way Iowa lost last week? Um.....OK then.

Just a couple of questions for you gambling types... Is being home for almost 20 days in a row a big advantage in the NFL? ( i think it has to be a big help ). Is playing in front of less than full/unenthusiastic fans factored in home field advantage ?

I don't think it is. I've often thought that some teams have a better crowds and they should get a better home field advantage. But then I was told The approx. 3 point bump given to every home team isn't really given to the home team at all. The 3 points is actually taken away from the vistor...

Didn't the Colts win 38-20 the last time they played the Texans? That game was in Houston as well. Houston is that bad where they probably won't cover the 17.5 point spread. We'll see.

I wouldn't have a problem taking the colts -17 normally either against houston. But the Colts' short week combined with their huge win should take some wind out of their sails...

I like your picks and I myself like Miami over New England as well as Houston covering the spread. Good luck MikeO.

call me crazy but i can see Houston pulling a upset over the Colts, its a long shot but the Texans have been playing better and Indy is bound to have a bad game who knows, and it was close last time these two played untill the end
