Commentary: What Now?

Excellent article. I concur. Given what Saban inherited, it was unreasonable to expect playoffs this year.

Awesome read, good job!

However, I think Travis Daniels will be better than "a pretty average corner"

I agree with this. He plays well in Sabans defense and has good intangibles. However, if this wasnt Sabans defense it could have gotten ugly for Daniels.

Thanks guys!

On the subject of Daniels, I didn't mean that necessarily as an insult. I think he'll be (and already is) a perfectly capable starter, but I don't think he's going to become any sort of true "shutdown" corner. He just doesn't have the speed or quickness to make big plays. He's a sure tackler, he's got a good head on his shoulders, and he can make a QB pay for a poorly thrown ball, but his physical skills are just too limited to make the long term impact of a Champ Bailey or Patrick Surtain. I hope I'm wrong on that front.

That said, IF Will Poole is perfectly healthy (and that's obviously a big IF), Poole does have those sorts of skills, which could make him an excellent complement to Daniels.

travis daniels has been recieving sabans coaching for years now, im pretty sure his ceiling isnt very high...i wouldnt count on him making much more of an impact in the future, than he does at the moment

If Schulters isnt back next yr guys where the heck do we get 2 quality starting Safeties from??? thoughts?
My own thoughts is we seriously need to draft a good one for the future. Prob is we havnt got a 2nd pick and afyter that you arnt exactly guaranteed a quality starter.

Safeties historically can be picked up on the cheap. It's not like CB, a position you need to spend a premium to upgrade. So if there's a real good one on the board, we'll jump on it, but I'd count on being able to pick up quality in the free agent market. Also, I think there's a chance Daniels gets moved to safety if we get enough help at corner (though that's probably not happening this year).

BTW, unless I missed something, we do have a second round pick.

Also, I think Tebucky Jones is a perfectly good SS, once he's healthy again; we'd just need a good FS.
