Commentary: Where Will They Play?

The Saints should and will play in San Antonio and the Hornets can play at Ruckers park for all I care. I hate that org. ever sinced they moved

It is my understanding that nobody can bet on sporting events that occur in Vegas in Vegas casinos.

If the NFL wants to step in, LA is a no-brainer location. If they want to keep it fairly local, the team should look to Birmingham instead of San Antonio.

Give the Hornets to Little Rock. That sounds like a plan.

My guess is that it well be close to NO. That way the fans can still attend without making it a hugh roadtrip.

Fair enough comments so far, guys. Keep in mind that this article was written from the leagues' perspectives and not from the teams. Keep the comments coming!

Saints will play in San Antonio because of the ties to the owner and their past experience practicing there. San Antonio has a stadium that would be NFL-caliber if it had twice as many skyboxes.

One interesting possibility for the Hornets is Kansas City. It used to have an NBA team and is building a new downtown arena that will open in 2008. The NBA is headed back to Kansas City, either via the Hornets or the Magic.

Isn't San Antonio going to be taking in more of the New Orleans residents? If they are and they're staying in the Alamodome, doesn't that take San Antonio out of it?

In all honesty, and I only base this on my own opinion from what I've drawn from the broadcasts of news people who are IN New Orleans who say the city may be uninhabitable for many years, I'd be inclined to think Los Angeles will be the permanent destination for the Saints within about a year. It gives the NFL their # 2 market back which has been rumored to be the destination of so many teams the last ten years and allows the Saints franchise to kind of start over in the short term rather than have to wait out a rebuilding of New Orleans.

Not necessarily. San Antonio is going to use the Freeman Coliseum for as many refugees as they can. The Freeman Coliseum is an old arena next door to the SBC Center used now for smaller events. The coliseum grounds also have a lot of pavilions that can be used for dormitories and other living facilities.

I think the city of San Antonio is trying to keep the Alamodome freed up for revenue generating events like Saints games, concerts, or conventions.
